Honestly, it's not even something I can discuss right now, it's so far off- middle of next year... maybe? I've got a backlog of about eight or nine things, and that's all in between official gigs. Keep in mind I'm not as inexpensive as a lot of other folks on DA, too. It depends on what you want, but most of my past commissions are in the low-to-mid hundreds (and I tend to charge more now since I'm so booked up). It's probably best to send me a PM sometime early next year if you want to explore the possibility more.

I just had a stupid/awesome thought: Maybe one day, possibly for Halloween, you could draw a rendition of that old Lonely Water PIF ("I am the spirit of dark and lonely water"....if you don't hear that in Donald Pleasance's voice when you read it, you don't know). THAT would be nice...and probably scare an entire generation of Deviants who remember the original PIF.

On the subject of your Ruth Wilson Doctor; I'm not using the EXACT character, she won't be the 12th incarnation of my Doctor, but i'm really inspired by the character; you will still be credited with everything there is to credit, if you'll still let me use her.

No, sadly- just Texas area stuff for the rest of 2014. Right now the schedule is Capital City Comic Con in July, San Antonio Wizard in August, Alamo City in September, and Austin Wizard in October. Out-of-state stuff is still too much of a financial stretch for me, but hopefully next year I'll be able to manage it.

I know that situation. I'm doing some out of state shows this year as sort of a risky experiment. Hoping it goes well.

I want to ask a question: Should you ever resurrect the "I'll Draw Anyone as the Doctor" commissions, would you draw an American actor in the role? I ask this because I am a huge fan of the show Criminal Minds and always thought Matthew Gray Gubler, who plays diehard Whovian Spencer Reid, would make for a pretty good Doctor.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised that my speculative design was "ballpark". For my own personal canon, that design's now the missing link between "Dark Eyes" and "Night of the Doctor". Which btw, Conjob... how hard did ya punch the air when the audios got canonized??? I know you're just a BIT of a fan of the "spinoff media". (John Hurt voice): "SPINOFF NO MORE."
A lot of Wikipedia entries had to be updated today, that's for damn sure.

Oh yeah! Never thought I'd say it, but I dare say it turned out to be even better than "The Web of Fear"! A very pleasant surprise, and it makes ya wonder just how many lost stories with so-so reputations are bona-fide classics waiting to be found.
To think we were all griping a few months ago that the Anniversary Year would be a washout. No wonder Moff's been so smug in all those interviews- he knew that Troughton episodes and Paul McGann were in the post.

That said, Capaldi's such a perfect choice that I worry that if they DO announce someone else, there'll be a backlash of fans who feel robbed and won't give someone else (especially an unknown, or a woman, or both) a chance. A female Doctor would be fighting a Jackie Robinson style battle with some fans already- having "it should've been Peter Capaldi" as a rallying cry won't help.
HOWEVER- it would be absolutely glorious to watch the meltdown that would happen online if an unknown actress was introduced as Twelve on a live transatlantic simulcast. Totally. Glorious.

Kasterborous In reply to PaulHanley [2013-08-02 12:57:17 +0000 UTC]
Oh yes, Capaldi would be a GREAT choice - fine actor with an excellent dramatic and comedic range, and an extraordinarily attractive voice IMO. Though personally I think he might be a little too old for the role - in this day and age I can't imagine anyone much over 40 being seriously considered for the part (even Bill Nighy!). I still think we're much more likely to get someone like Damien Molony, who I could certainly live with. But then speculation may be pointless - I had no idea who Matt Smith was when his casting was announced, and he confounded my strong reservations that he was too young to play the Doctor by proving to be extraordinary.

PaulHanley In reply to Kasterborous [2013-08-02 16:56:21 +0000 UTC]
Exactly. A lot of people (including me) were like, "SERIOUSLY?!" when he was announced. And I dare say if this announcement doesn't do that to a lot of people, on a certain level... it's a failure. The announcement should challenge the audience a little (even if it's just age- Capaldi would potentially be the oldest regular Doctor ever- beating out Hartnell by a matter of days). Whatever it is, I don't want it to be "safe" and I don't want it to be like Smith (because there's no imitating him). It's exactly why I think the folks saying, "No- no female Doctor ever- I'll stop watching!" are ridiculous. Reservations are one thing, but Smith proved that ya can't judge till you've seen them in action, no matter how wrong they may seem at first.

HaddonArt In reply to PaulHanley [2013-08-04 22:58:29 +0000 UTC]
Actually when he starts filming he will be 56. Hartnell was 55. He really is the oldest Doctor now. Also, to be honest I know what you mean about people who say that about a female Doc, but I never have really liked Smith, though I fear that was more the writings fault.

PaulHanley In reply to Kasterborous [2013-08-02 06:38:12 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I'm encouraged by the strong rumors that it'll be Peter Capaldi. As much as i've lobbied for (the highly unlikely choice of) Ruth Wilson, Capaldi would knock it out of the park. He'd also be the oldest actor in the role (John Hurt excepted)- beating out Hartnell by just a matter of days (if you count from their debut episode). Even though no actor, as fas as I know, has become part of the TARDIS team after TWO previous Whoniverse roles (especially a major recurring one with Torchwood), it seems silly to let that be the only thing to stand in the way. Maybe the Doctor just fractured slightly, the same way Clara did when she stepped into his timeline. Oddly enough, the thing that really sold me on Capaldi being a great actor who can do anything was his bit part on SKINS. In just a couple episodes he built a character who was funny, hateful, sympathetic, and tragic all at once. And the guy's an Oscar-winning director himself- I have a feeling Moff would feel challenged to up his game for an actor like that.
