Yes. In fact I have almost finished planning short series with Knockout, based on some old "doctor" jokes, it will be 8 short one-shots packed as one story. I'm still thinking about fitting title though.

Ahh, yeah. It's a shame that we can't give each other more than one. But that would lead to people throwing insane amounts of llamas at each other, so perhaps it is for the better.
These are most appreciated! The Spring came but it is slow to show itself and I live in a city (though I miss country side where I lived for a while years ago) where Spring is not nearly as beautiful as it could be.

Β
"OPTIMISTS VS. PESSIMISTS
POINT:"An optimist is someone who falls off the Empire State Building, and after 50 floors says, 'So far so good!'"Β ~ ANONYMOUS
COUNTERPOINT: "The nice part about being a pessimist is that you are constantly being either proven right or pleasantly surprised."
~ GEORGE WILL, columnist"

I have another one, but I don't remember who said it:

Umm. The optimist thinks that we live in the best of worlds (and they're happy that our world is the best to live on).
The pesimist fears that it may be true (as in, he thinks that we may indeed live in the best of worlds, which means that if this lousy one is the best, how miserable other worlds must be).

I've been dealing with this slagging bronchitis since last Wednesday. I'm now coughing up some blood in the mucus. :-/ (I hope it's just irritation with all of the coughing.)
I've missed three days of work already. (I only work Tues. and Thurs.) My money's getting somewhat low........ I've been buying all of this cold medicine, boxes of tissues, etc which adds up. (I always try to get the cheapest stuff available.)
PS. I'll get back to the other messages a little later. Gotta go back to my doctor today.

SeraphineBlackheart In reply to CrescentNubila [2017-01-28 10:52:18 +0000 UTC]
You probably have some ripped vessels, if you cough the vessels in your throat get trashed by the fits so some of them may burst due to the strain.
Yeah, that sucks. In Poland if you have proper job contract (instead of the "trashy" one) you get partial reimburse - you get something 80% of your pay. Unless you have "trashy" contract in which case you only get the doctor bill covered but nothing else.
Still, yeah, getting yourself drugs drain the pocket.
PS.
Okay.

I sounded like I had gravel clogging my throat. I was really hoarse. XD
Such is life.
PS. I'm seriously considering quitting my dentist gig. Seriously this time.
I come back to a mess every time I'm absent from work. (It's just me and him in the office.) He buys all of that equipment and he doesn't even know how to use it! Stacking up dirty trays, not changing the cleaning solution, leaving my desk a mess. I tested him today as we left for the day. I was once again cleaning up the mess he left behind and I asked him to please send the reminder calls while I finished placing the instruments into the protective pouches. He says, "I'm not that good at it." Really? How did he do it when I was out sick for 3 days? (I only work 2 days a week.) I respond by saying "Please? It would really help me out." "I know, but don't worry about the instruments. Take care of the instruments next week."
So, that has me questioning his hygienic practices when no one is there to clean up. Seriously when I returned after I was sick, he only had three clean trays to work with. He didn't even have the common sense/courtesy to sanitize the trays!
It's not just that, but I finally realized that there's no teamwork. I'm also questioning my good review of him. If that's what he does when there's no help, I question the cleanliness of the instruments being used on someone's mouth. It's mostly all on me to do everything. He helps out in the most minimal way possible (around the office. Yes he did help me out a lot by letting me work for him, but it's a different vibe from being his patient as opposed to being his employee.)
However, I loathe being so helpless without money. It took me years just to get this little gig which has worn my patience to the breaking point.
Shoot, I was happier being a volunteer, but that was doing work for free. (Meal vouchers don't really count as income)
I cried today at work. (I had made a simple mistake on the ADA form and I knew how to correct it. I have to explain why something went wrong and why it was sent back, etc, etc, etc. He has a tough way of talking when he's upset and he swears "it's how he talks", but it's happened far too often for it to be that. Well, in that tone of his, he told me that I should know better by now. However, I'm human, I screw up no matter how much I hate it.
The tension built up and I cried. (Not scream-a-thon. XD)
So, should I quit? I'm fed up. My patience has worn so thin.

Not to mention how it feels - I remember it's a mix of pain and the feeling of not being able to get rid of some obstacle from your throat.
Life! Why it is so great and so miserable at the same time?
PS. Awwwww man! The guy is a (what do you call someone who lives in a mess their whole life)!
Wow! That's dangerous!
Maybe he's a not very good doctor? I mean some day he may infect someone with some nasty bacteria and give them infection that will cause them some serious problems.
You should look for a different job - any job, if you cry because of your work then it is not a good one.
But for now do your best, but the only person who doesn't make mistakes is the one that doesn't do anything.
Next time you'll make an error just say "Oy, boss, I'd made an error but don't worry I'm fixing it right now." and if he gets all irritated and upset say "It was not intentional, it was an accident, probably something had me distracted and that's why it happened, I am fixing it right now and it will be all right in a sec." you can also add that what got you distracted was a noisy kid or even something he did (or didn't) and don't say "mistake" - mistakes are made of sloppiness; say "error" - errors happen randomly by accident.
Aside of that just stay coolΒ and "professional" about everything there - you already know that you won't stay there so there's no point in taking everything personal and emotional. You don't care about that job any more, you just stay there for the money until you get another job.

That's exactly how it felt when I was sick recently. My upper right lobe was burning something serious each time I coughed which made it extremely difficult to get the crap out. It felt like my entire throat was clogged with mucus (which it probably was). I got the pneumonia vaccination and still got it. They say not as bad (and compared to the last time I had pneumonia, this recent time wasn't as bad).
I'd say life is 20% great, 80% miserable.
PS. He's 72 years old and he's apparently been at it for 50+ years. I believe he's depressed because he doesn't get much clientele. However, his moodiness may also play a role.....and maybe along with his disgusting secret when no one's around. I believe he's tired of his job. He should really retire. He doesn't even care enough to clean the equipment he uses. Yeah, it's part of my job (I do almost everything there anyway) to clean and sterilize, but damn, a doctor should know that sterile tools and equipment are essential.
It is very dangerous. Once I believe he grabbed some unused tools from a used tray and used them on the next patient! Even if he didn't use those tools, the tray was still soiled from the previous patient. Even if there's no visible sludge, it's still unclean.
When I returned from being sick, he had done an extraction and yes, there was dried blood on the tray. And the "clean" tools (which were 'sterilized' in filthy cleansing solution mind you) were sitting next to the pile of dirty trays. Bacteria doesn't stay in one area, they spread, but he doesn't know that apparently.
I don't want to see him if there's no receptionist working there.Β I may just find myself another dentist.....and definitely another job.
But I'm worn out. I can't take it anymore. It's too much. Maybe this Tuesday and Thursday will be my final hurrah there. It also doesn't help that I'm facing two surgeries in the following months.
Three wisdom teeth extracted in March and another foot surgery in May. Job searching at this point is questionable and it's not likely that I'll get hired soon anyway. I'm stuck!!!
(I'll answer the other messages and notes tomorrow. I'm sleepy as slag. XD)

SeraphineBlackheart In reply to CrescentNubila [2017-02-17 12:50:25 +0000 UTC]
Ah, yes, and then there is the nose which is clogged and you feel like suffocating because you can't breathe properly. But with the nose it's not as much mucus as simply swollen tissue. My mum is now sick so she goes through all that sore throat and clogged nose now, though it's just a cold in her case (or at least I hope so - last year she was so sick that she spent a week home, sleeping most of the time - twice!). And I also was sick like that in the past, though nothing as serious as your, at least not lately.
I'd say it's a 50-50, though it depends on what you consider "great" and what "miserable".
PS.
Whoa! He's that old?
Maybe he doesn't remember about all that any more?
Start with another dentist - that should be your priority because in case something happens and you need a dentist, you'd probably be happier with someone else poking around your teeth.
Then perhaps keep that job until the surgery, so you can quit at the same time you have your foot done? This way during your recovery you can just relax and start looking for another job when you have your mobility again?

There's something going around and it's lingering for a long period of time. I'm still coughing even though I was 'cleared' of my pneumonia weeks ago. Or maybe it's just a healing process. There's still some snot clogging my nostrils and my left nostril in particular burns. :-/
But I hope your mom gets better soon and that you don't get whatever floating around.
(I really do believe that it's the weather. It's like a temperature seesaw. Up and down, up and down.)
True it does have a lot to do with perspective. But 50/50 is still a pretty large chunk of great vs. miserable. In my perspective, that ratio isn't too comforting. If something is truly great, the pleasant side of it would be mostly dominant.
PS. Yes, he's that old.
I don't believe that's the case. He sure gets on me about the very things he slips up on.
Yeah, that's a good start, but what if it's an emergency and I'm right at work? I don't worry about the tools when I'm there because I know I do everything the right way. It's whenever I'm gone that I worry. Here's a shocker, he seems to know how to operate the equipment, but he'd rather wait until I came back to do it the right way. (He didn't openly say anything like that, but his actions said otherwise.) He knows this "old fashioned way" where you wrap the instruments in a clean rag and sterilize them in the autoclave. I doubt he even did that while I was gone.
My ankle surgery is in May and his review of my work there will be in April. I plan to leave at that time anyway. It all works out in that manner, but depending on how well/fast my recovery from foot surgery goes, I'll have to hold the job search.
π: 0 β©: 1
SeraphineBlackheart In reply to CrescentNubila [2017-02-23 09:40:15 +0000 UTC]
I'd say it's a healing process. It never ends clearly like that. The symptoms can stay after you're "cleared" and lessen slowly until they're gone. when you're "cleared" it doesn't mean you won't have any symptoms any more, it just means that you should be strong enough to walk around and do your stuff.
Besides, you were cleared of pneumonia, not sniffles which are most probably unrelated.
My mum did got better but I have a light cold now too XD
If it was perfect we'd be living in paradise.
PS.
Then he's just lazy.
Yeah, and if you get the next job review and they'll ask you why you left, you can say that it was due to your surgery (employers don't take well when you say bad stuff about your previous employers because they fear that in the future you may say bad things about them as well, that's why when you have to say that your previous boss was terrible it is best to say something along the lines of: "I don't like to talk about it." or "I'd rather focus on the future rather than past.").

CrescentNubila In reply to SeraphineBlackheart [2017-02-24 22:55:58 +0000 UTC]
It most likely is, but I hope it doesn't turn into chronic bronchitis (which my mom has).
Happy to hear that your mom is getting better, but sorry to hear that you have a light cold. XD Hope you get better soon.
Which is never going to happen.
Yes, but his laziness is putting people's health at risk.
I do find it odd that I got so sick after he did and exam and cleaning on me in January........
He did the cleaning 1/17/17 and I had a horrid sore throat by 1/25/17. It got worse from there. However, there is something floating around and many people who aren't his patients are getting sick with the same thing.
I'll keep all that in mind for further interviews.

It'll most likely just pass, just give it time.
Yeah, though she still have her sinuses clogged, which in normal for her in this time of year.
I'm better now, thanks, pine cone syrup does magic! The only minus is that the one made by my mum will cure your cold along with your verticality (it has enough alcohol to sweep you off your feet XD that's because my mum overdid it, normally it is milder).
Nope. But then again, if we lived in paradise would we be able to truly understand how lucky we are and appreciate it? I mean if we never had anything to complain about, would we be able to truly enjoy carefree life?
Yeah, that's what so dangerous about laziness - in most cases it is harmful to people.
Nah, I think it's not related to your check-up. If you had gum infection than yeah, that would be definitely his fault. But if you got a bug, then you probably caught it from someone else, maybe even one of the patients or any random person.
I don't have that much experience with interviews, but these are advices repeated by all sort of recruitment specialists so I believe them. And also you can only make first impression one time, so it's better to make it good one.

CrescentNubila In reply to SeraphineBlackheart [2017-02-27 19:09:19 +0000 UTC]
I think so too. My cough is already lessening.
Wow! That is some potent stuff! XD
If we had a carefree life, we wouldn't even need to address those questions. No cares, no worries. I'm all for it.
Agreed to this entire paragraph.
Those recruitment specialists will tell you things like "95% of our clients get hired! ". It may be good advice, but they also have to make their business/organization look good too.
But it's all good advice regardless. But it's just a ridiculous process searching for jobs and trying to become employed. Just like life in general.

SeraphineBlackheart In reply to CrescentNubila [2017-03-01 09:46:17 +0000 UTC]
Give it time and it will go completely.
You have no idea! The first time I tried it I thought it would burn through my stomach XD The more I think about it, the more I believe its "force" may actually be purposeful - if you're unable to stand straight you'll stay in bed and get better soon XD
True, but I once watched "Bruce Almighty" where God (Morgan Freeman) gave one guy his powers to prove how hard it is to be God and why not all wished can be granted. Bruce (Jim Carrey) at one point granted all the wishes by default and was shocked that people were angry - they were complying that their luck was not large enough. As it happened, even when people had everything they wanted, it was never enough.
What matters is that you got better.
I never heard that from anyone, and they were not head hunters, but recruitment specialists that perform recruitments in companies - people who talk with you when you get an job interview in some place where you want to get job. People who recruit you to work for their companies. They were talking about how recruitment process looks like, and I was stunned because in large corporations the CVs (resumes) are being sorted by computer that looks for key words, and only some of them would end up on recruiter's desk. And I was amuse because in small companies or firms, the CVs were sorted by recruiter, but they admitted that having a fancy CV could make a huge difference because it would catch their attention and people tend to remember such thing easier.
Yeah, all the tricks one has to pull to get it done. Ha! Can you imagine? Sending a fancy looking CV just to catch someone's attention so they read it!

Except that it's back with a vengeance........
I think that will make my situation worse. I don't want to be in pain AND coughing my lungs out. XD
Speaking of pain, I'm going to have to reschedule my wisdom teeth extraction to later in the year. Bronchitis doesn't clear up in a few days. It takes weeks to quit coughing and for bronchitis to completely clear up. I can't be coughing like crazy and dislodge those blood clots. And who wants to heal up from bronchitis and then get their mouth cut into? *shudders*
Such is the human race. We can never be pleased with what we have.
Yeah. The process is maddening like most other things humans create. There is the saying (don't know where it's from though or who said it), "The path to Hell is paved with good intentions." But I don't think that the hiring process was ever meant to be "good".
I think that they should have applicants submit their resumes and test each eligible person in the job duties. Anyone can put something fancy on paper.

SeraphineBlackheart In reply to CrescentNubila [2017-03-10 10:18:01 +0000 UTC]
Maybe it didn't left completely, just sit hidden preparing for attack?
Oh, no. Not pain. I'm an abstinent, so any alcohol in the syrup feels like some strong booze to me.
Also, the coughing might make the procedure impossible for the surgeon/dentist to perform because you would have fits during it.
I don't think it's just us. I think it is the case with any and all life - sapient or otherwise.
I think it comes either from the Bible or it is some old folk wisdom, because we have it Poland too. And no, hiring process isn't meant to be good, it is meant to bring up a person someone wants to hire.
Well, if the person lied, it will come up at some point in which case they can always fire that person.
