Hello David! how are you?

Doing quite well thanks.

Only new thing is I got myself a home flour mill, so have started making homemade fresh milled breads and pasta.

Otherwise it's pretty quiet here, although some may argue that milling flour isn't exactly the pinnacle of excitement

How about yourself?

Did you decide to pursue art therapy?

Or have you thought of a different direction to go?

Your photography is really good, I really like the sharpness of most of your pieces, the themes are very poetic, and you usually capture them admirably.
There is a lots of lovely shoots in your gallery.

As for the vectors, I really like your style.
It looks simple and efficient.
I do know it ain't simple though.
In fact, simplicity is a complex exercise.
I would suggest to push it further.
Try to tell a story in your drawings.
Otherwise, it is only an exercise, a display, somehow of technic.
I am convinced that you can push it further!
Go for it.

Thank you

I really should try to give my work a background and a story.

I saw your "Lone Wolf and Cub 2075" now that's a lot of detail! I feel drained after a head to shoulders portrait!
Very impressive

Ah, don't look at that one and think about the amount of work.
That ain't fair to yourself.

I did that one after a lots of experimentation.

Thing is, if you want to do a serious illustration, it is a lots of work.
At first, you can limit yourself with very few colours, possibly 2 or 3.

It is absolutely fine to use references, but do not copy.
Never copy.
Not because of some ideal concept, but because it is almost useless.

When you find a reference you like, think about the situation where you would like to find your reference into.
Then, get more references, and start working at it.
Doing different type of drawing in the same drawing is a lots of fun, and not as boring.
Take some time to think of the composition.
Avoid the use of black and gray in a full colour image.

I know how draining vector work is, trust me, I am with you on that one.
But take your time and breathe.
What matter is not that the piece is completed.
What matter is that you do it.

Cheers

It is quite the 'if looks could kill'-photo
And being quiet and shy doesn't necessarily make you a geek?

Oh and thank you for the comment as well.

I realize being quiet & shy doesn't make me a geek... but I think the love of science, computers, Photography and Science-Fiction tv shows probably dose make me one

My pleasure.

MeganKearin In reply to 88-Law [2010-08-01 12:27:49 +0000 UTC]

I lack the interest in computers and science-fiction tv, but I'm a sucker for science and photography as well. Does that make me a geek too, now?
Geek is such a horrible word, as if having interests besides getting drunk and getting laid on a Friday night suddenly makes you weird.

88-Law In reply to MeganKearin [2010-08-01 20:44:42 +0000 UTC]

Sorry I didn't realize geek was a "four letter word" in you're mind!
I don't see it as a insulting word, but that's probably because I am one, as the dictionary shown in #1 (copied from dictionary.reference.com)
(sorry for the confusion )

Dictionary: geek
–noun
1. a computer expert or enthusiast (a term of pride as self-reference, but often considered offensive when used by outsiders.)

2. a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, esp. one who is perceived to be overly intellectual.

3. a carnival performer who performs sensationally morbid or disgusting acts, as biting off the head of a live chicken.

P.S. A "nerd" is a "person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit" (so I guess that would make me both)

MeganKearin In reply to 88-Law [2010-08-02 13:12:52 +0000 UTC]

If you're completely fine with it, then there's nothing bad I can see in it towards your vision. Then again, I hate it to call people names regarding their interests and social lives. In the end we're just animals as any other, if subcategories are being made, then rather let them be an actual clear and correct ones, such as "animalia - chordata - mammalia - primates - hominidae - homo - homo sapiens".
Ok, nevermind me, anthropology is a passion.

Doesn't even matter since you made your point quite clearly here

(Btw, technically 'geek' is nothing more than just a 4-letter word!)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

88-Law In reply to MeganKearin [2010-08-02 17:15:15 +0000 UTC]

yes I know it's a four letter word if you're literal.
I just though it would be a more humorous way of saying "curse word" due to this vary fact

By the way, I noticed you joined about a week ago. So welcome
I don't know about you, but I've quite enjoyed this conversation

Thank you! It's actually an unfair vision since I left deviantart sometime ago and came back. I've been on here for quite some time already!

And yes, same goes for me. This was a pleasant convo. Quite a bit better than the usual "thank you for the fav - you're welcome"-kinda nonsense.
