# About me

I have always been fascinated by the Ocean and I want to do something in contact with it. For a long time now I've been having ideas of a fictional world that has grown bigger and bigger, to the point that writing and drawing it has become my main goal in life.

I'm interested in the balance between civilisations and Nature, what relationship different cultures have/had with their natural environment and how the man-crafted reality of societies and social duties impact individuals and individual perception of what the world is.

Interesting ! I already knew that metallic structures, such as ancient boats or tanks, that are sunken by the armies get quickly colonised by corals, so it's not much of a surprise. However as the article says, some studies have to be done, I'm impatient to see what conclusions biologists are going to make !

If there no down side then these wind turbines might help rebuilding the reefs as one of the arguments against any environmentalism is that it would hurt the economy, when in fact here proves both worlds are work together! People tend to think we need to give up one to have the other, BAH! There is a way if you know where to look, just people stop looking OTL.

AlyaMars In reply to Aristedes [2014-07-30 08:54:54 +0000 UTC]

I think it really depends on the interests that are put as priority. The economy always existed, but it took various and diverse forms depending on the culture and the context. Now we have the Economy, which priority is the Economy itself or making money thanks to savage liberalism. I think one of the most important things is to give less credit to the Economy and focus on Human and Environment. I am sure it would be a relevant economy as well, but the difficulty is to change the focus that remains in the head of people.

And it is very possible that turbines hurt the economy !^^ But if you think so, it means that your priority are the petrol companies and the other energy lobbies already existing, such as AREVA or Vattenfall.

Aristedes In reply to AlyaMars [2014-07-31 20:55:12 +0000 UTC]

To me a "economy" is the means in which a people chose to distribute available resources. The irony here is even capitalism is about distribution of resources, which fox new will tell you that is socialism, the criticism of it is the unfair distribution, which I agree with. It is not about money or making money that is blind capitalism. Money it self have no real value, money is a standard to better judge the value and trade of a resource, also it is use as a reward system. The problem is money has become a status symbol, so more money you have greater your status. It doesn't help with the fact that money is distributed by the hands of a few rather then the people.

Short term perhaps but long term? No in fact if we run out of petrol or none-renewable resources then it would kill the economy. Furthermore  it might be lower maintenance do the fact that most are self running, low risk, and needs no supply chain. I think the problem is less the companies and more the share holders always pushing for better profits. Even if profits drop just a little bit the share holds will start bailing or use their share votes to change the management. The system creates the greed not the other way around.

I do as well . Also a different group made plastics base off the shrimp shell. It don't actually use shrimp shells but chemically they are very similar. The idea is it make true biodegradable plastic that can compete with standard plastics and be safe for marine life.

AlyaMars In reply to Aristedes [2014-06-23 18:29:29 +0000 UTC]

True biodegradable plastic. That's the word ! I've read recently that most of the biodegradable plastic used is not realy degradable, it just decomposes into tinier polymers... I've never thought about chitins, but it's true that it is a biological polymer ! If it can be synthesised, it would be great (even if it still use oil).

Yeah I read about that and saw some of the damages >.<. That is why I like the idea of chitins as most sea life is use to eating that stuff lol. OK I found the link news.harvard.edu/gazette/story… . An other idea that gaining popularity here is solar roads www.solarroadways.com/intro.sh… .

(Sorry for the time I took to respond !)

Interesting news for the chitin ! I don't know much about the matter, I'm waiting to see something that would be made of chitin.

Ok for solar roads... Seems like a really crazy idea... O.o It can be interesting for small areas but I think that it would be too much resources and energy of you have to transform every road, because of the cables you have to install from the solar panel to anywhere and the materials you need to craft those things and for the energy you have to craft it, destroy the ancient road and put the solar panels. I don't say solar roads are a bad idea, but being crazy by using an insanity (highways everywhere) is not such a good plan.

Aristedes In reply to AlyaMars [2014-07-29 11:40:35 +0000 UTC]

np so what been going on?

I would as well and I just read something about using food waste to make bioplastics witch also could yield something of value.

Well they said it could make 3 times the energy we need so we don't need all roads to made solar. Also it could charge electric cars on the move which may means no more stops to refuel/recharge, which in itself is wasting energy. We don't really have ancient roads here, few that we do have are dirt roads. Roads are already high maintenance as they need replacing every few seasons. Though I do not doubt it would have a high short term cost but long term who knows? I believe we must be open to all possibilities even thoughts that seem crazy as at one time many ideas seem crazy at first , but, I agree there should be caution.

Yes I've seen some "Let's play" of Dark Souls and Dark Souls II. I don't know if you know Pewdiepie on Youtube, I've seen his "let's play"s and it is quite funny to how much frustration this games generates (it looks pretty by the way).

I'm not sure if you told me but what are you studying?

Yes but fun when you do win . It does have very wonderful if a bit sad views as dark souls always takes place in a dieing world. Dakr souls stories are not always handed to you. You have to dig up the story yourself. For example in the first one you fight and kill Chaos Witch Quelaag a womon's body attach to an giant flaming spider. Pass her you may fine the fair lady she also attach to an giant  spider body but it is white but not flaming. She doesn't attack you as the sickly undead *not zombie kind of undead* tells you that she is sick from eating the blight puss that was making everyone sick. He would ask if you like to serve the lady and if you do you'll earn stuff by giving her a pieces of souls called humanity. The fair lady will not talk unless you have the old witches' ring there she think you are her sister whom you just killed *guilt moment TAT*. The lady tells her sister not to worry about her, she should look after own health and that she loves her.

It is believe that Quelaag try to kill you for your humanity which she would give to her sister in hopes it will keep her alive. It is also theorize that Kirk, Knight of Thorns, who tries to kill, even though he has no diealong his armor when you get it say he is a Darkwrath *evil guys* but when you kill him his body ends up in the fair ladies room. That is why many believe he betray the darkwrath to the fair lady as he ether fell in love or simple sympathize. But regardless it is seem he also after your piece of humanity. Sorry that was a bit long D:

Looks more elaborated than I thought ! But who are "you" supposed to be, to have everybody want to kill you and take your humanity ?

Aristedes In reply to AlyaMars [2014-04-29 20:08:41 +0000 UTC]

Ah want are you hoping to go into?

Well you are an curse undead who is task to go on a pilgrimage to find out why you were brought back to life. Well not everything most things are hollows, which are undead who lost their minds, or monsters. Others want to stop your quest for their own reason and other know you come to kill them and are not going out without a fight. I don't want to give everything away but the first story they tell is of how the world was made. www.youtube.com/watch?v=jj10Uu… <- the intro story.

2nd one is similar you are curse but you were living and are trying to undo the cruse before you go hollow.

Wanna go in genetic engineering so I will be able to create genetically modified pigs that will be so fat that their immune system can't work so they cage has to be sterilized every week to avoid their death, and earn lots of money by applying for a pattent on this form of Life.
 ...

Just kidding. I don't know exactly what I want to do, but I feel very interested by the ecology of Sharks, deep-water ecosystems and protection of the oceanic biomes... But I'll do my best to work with the biology of the Ocean, that is what matters most to me.

I'll try to find a moment and see those videos. ; ) But anyway I was thinking to buy Dark Souls II after my exams, try by myself this game. ^^

Aristedes In reply to AlyaMars [2014-05-01 02:12:24 +0000 UTC]

Well for that to happen you have to find an suitable food source that can replace current one specially for coastal Asian countries as they are often fighting over fishing rights and over fishing. In fact U.N rule against Japan plan to lunch their "research vessel." Japan responded that they will only kill 210 whales instead of over 300 and make more improvements to better do "research". Here in the U.S we have a problem of a lot of sea food is wasted even before it reaches the docks as some of it is high standerds to makes sure it is fresh, that part, is not so bad just wish it still doesn't get wasted. The other is bureaucracy. Fish farms seems like a good replacement but the fish are not the same quality, so, people still prefer caught sea food.

Cool but just watch out! As I said, it is not very forgiving game compare to the standard. If you die, and you will, you go back to the last spawn point with lest health do to the cruse, as you are becoming more undead though you don't go hollow lucky >.<. Any money, here it is souls, will be drop at the last place you died if you die again you lose your souls. Most bosses can kill you in a few hits and they are aggressive, though not always. I'm not saying you shouldn't by it as it is a great game imho if you want a challenge, love sad and a bit scary stories. I just want you to know what you are getting into so you can make a educated decision .

AlyaMars In reply to Aristedes [2014-05-01 08:53:30 +0000 UTC]

Yep I know all of this. I was so happy when Sea Shepherd gain against Japan in the trial of the U.N. What a great moment.
Actually fish farms are not a good replacement at all, for a lot of reasons :

1) To be suitable, you have to create great spaces of fish farming, with lots of fishes in every "farm". This means that, as for all animals when they are numerous, diseases and parasites can be transmitted easily. It is an unhealthy environment for the fishes we eat and the ecosystem around the farm (without saying that fish farmers use to throw pesticides in the water of their farm (which is the Ocean anyway).

2) As the fish farms are very concentrated, the excrements of the fishes create, locally, a high pressure on the balance of the local ecosystem (and, because of ocean streams and the moving nature of Water, the toxic waters around the fish farm can spread far away).

3) Farm fishes are not as fit as their free brothers, because they are not selected to be fit, but to be fat. So when a farm fish escape and managed to have a descendants, they are a "lost generation" because of their weakness.

4) Finally, it is actually not true to believe that fish farming "protects" the fish stocks of the Ocean... Because you have to feed your farm fishes,  and now they kill more free fishes to feed farm fishes !

We can say that as the Human population grows, we have to feed them, so we fatally have to fish more (among other things)... But that's (excuse me for the word) bullshit. The only true reason we continue to plunder the Ocean is because the fishing lobby makes great benefices thanks to their destructive fishing, and because we, as people, are too egoistic to think about what it really means, to eat a tuna, a cod or a grenadier (I don't even talk about all the reef species, that are usually fished with dynamite).

One of my ideas was to continue the studies about the fish migrations and life cycle (little are know about that), so we could create preserved areas depending on were the fishes are and in which moment of their life cycle, that way we could manage to protect them in the most critic moments of their lives and help populations to grow... But the political obstacle is so big, I'm almost sure we will already have a civil war before we could create any preserved area.

For me, again, it's not a question about "what we will eat, then", but about education... Very idealistic ! But I may still have hope. To take an example, the Chinese government has recently make real progress learning people about the sharks and shark fins ; apparently, they have dramatically dropped their consumption and banned shark fin from governmental meetings.

About Dark Souls, yes I have seen that on the Let's Plays. ^^ Actually I didn't feel interested by the story, because I was seeing the game more like a dynamic "beat'em'all" that allows some nice moves and I wanted to try such game. Thank you for the info !

There is another game that seems great, it is named "Kingdom Come : Deliverance". It is still in development, but the dynamics and the ambition of the team is impressive. I love the fact that it is a Czech team, 'cause as they have a great medieval background, I trust them to create a refined and coherent game about Middle Ages. Here you have the link for their Kickstarter : www.kickstarter.com/projects/1…

Aristedes In reply to AlyaMars [2014-05-01 23:37:15 +0000 UTC]

I know fish farming had its problems but didn't think it was that bad >.<, But it is good to know ^^. I try to find solutions that make as many people as happy as possible as unhappy people if left unhappy will turn to angry, which, if left alone, will turn to violence. Sea food is very important to the human diet as it is filled with omages that promotes better brain development. sadly that is something we need more of OTL. So, we do need to find a replacement and/or a new method to acquire our food.

If you want to educate people the best ways I know of are tangential learning, that is learning though activities they already enjoy. For example the movie "finding nemo" got a lot of people interested in coral fish.  Another would be Informal learning, that is where we learn from day to day actives. reather then trying to teach something all at once you'll teach in some does day-to-day. The last is debate learning. Here people try to prove something is wrong, but, if they can't then the idea is sound thus they cannot refute it.

As for counties getting along. I know of three reason why that is so much trouble. One is tribalism, as it is human instinct to form tribes. Sometimes it comes in forms of race, nations, or religion. In the end it is pretty much all the same. Two ways to improve on this one expand our idea of "tribe", and two, have a more safe and humane way of competition like sports.

The next problem is the idea there not enough resource to take care of everyone. On many levels that is B.S as we just haven't found the best way of using the resources we have and there is space which is full of lifeless asteroids and plants. In fact we found a planet made up of solid diamond. If we mind that plant *given it is lifeless* we could give everyone on earth a life size car sculpture made out solid diamond. This would mean that diamonds in reality base on the idea of rare = value diamonds are worth less then wood or even grass .

The third problem is the perceived threat. This comes from the first two problems then exacerbated by our defensive instincts. If we fix the other two this will over time solve it's self .

Well dark souls one and two are a good story just sad. The main theme you have to look at is a dieing world much like a dieing flame struggling to hold on what it has but inevitably will go out.

Man that looks like a great game o.o hope they actally pull through with it. It reminds me of "mount & blade: warband" not as good graphic wise, or maybe combat? But still a good but slow pace strategy rpg.
