You're BeautifulStepping over to my bed, I throw the stitched remnants of stolen bedrolls to the side before climbing in. I watch my tail twitch with nervous energy as it hangs off the raised wooden platform I carved my bed from, willing it to still. *Swish-swish flick-flick swish-swish flick swish flick* Frustrated, I grab the end of it and pull it close to my body, holding the middle between my knees.
Sliding my eyes closed, my heart slows down and I listen to the steady hum of insects outside my window.
*crunch*
Oh please no. My body stiffens, causing the knot between my shoulders to pinch up.
*I warned you* the voice snarls.
Not now! Fear and anger surge up within me. How dare he follow me here!
*Destroy him…if he gets away you will be discovered and slain*
Shaking with rage, I arch my back, pulling myself up to my full height, spine crackling at the base of my skull. Golden eyes ablaze, arcane hellfire crackling at my fingertips, I step from the doorway t
Our Palest Star - PrologueBorn a pale Tiefling girl to two human parents in a small town is bad enough. But born with magic abilities and unnaturally large stature was downright cruel. Before I was even able to walk the community shunned me, my alabaster skin, small horns, tail, darkened fingers and toes and luminous golden eyes marking me as "Other". As an infant candles and lamps would flicker and change color, my cries would sometimes boom outwards, far louder than should be possible and my cradle would sometimes rock itself with a low rumble. But my parents cared for me, never once did they see me as a monster, I was their darling Agie and a symbol of their love.
Growing up I stayed inside most of the time, only venturing out with the supervision of at least one of my parents. I have vague memories of my mother shouting at furrow browed individuals who would point at me and scowl. She was always so brave.
Often I would see other kids playing and would ask my parents if I could join them but they always told
