[link] <------ This video is actually one theory I agree with. But if you don't want to watch the full video, the basic idea is that it's about the pros and cons of creativity. As they start thinking deeper and deeper into seemly simple subjects, they start thinking too much into those things. With creativity, comes positive and negative thoughts.
But. . .
I have another part to add onto that theory (Which is a little difficult to explain).
Personally, I think it's also about the restrictions placed on creativity. For example, when the painting is drawn and the notepad says it's not creative (Also, the quote at the top is a good example). In order to be creative or original, rules are placed to make them more 'original'. For a real life example, mary sue tests. They are meant to make a OC more original, however, they also dismiss certain creative ideas.

But, your take on it seems truthful.
In order to be creative, you have to do something that's different from the norm. But, at the same time, creativity is supposed to be "expressing yourself"... which usually doesn't cut it unless it's differen't from the norm.
Basically, it's a huge paradox. Leads you in circles.
