I'll be frank with you: they actually did but I'm not popular enough to have too many people who were interested I figured that it'll be a great motivation to get up and draw more though and the profit will probably go to extend my premium membership or buy it for others so it's still a win-win situation

Yeah, It's sad how people on deviantart seem to more be interested in popularity rather than art skill, they even seem to think that 100 is alot even though it's only 1.00usd, they disregard the time and effort it takes to actually create one drawing, I have this friend who draws really amazing semi realism digital paintings and they should be about 20E for a headshot but no one even commissions him just because he isn't popular.

Eh, I totally agree with you and I feel kind of bad to put such prices on the market but then again, even if I don't care that much about popularity it's still a large part of dA. Aside from commissions, it freaks me out more when it comes to contests... Meaning situations where the winners are almost always the most popular people amongst the participants Sometimes it's justified, sometimes it's NOT since the works that win don't always look that good. I had this situation where my work for a contest was a large source for inspiration (the character was similar in clothing, action, theme similar even in details) for another participant, who submitted his/her work after me. The difference was the artform: I used mixed media, the artist submitted a photomanip and was very popular. Guess who won. There were really good traditional pieces in that contest that were detailed and creative but the artists weren't popular enough as well.

Ouch, just ouch. That is just sad, sometimes I wonder why I even try when all my efforts are going to go to waste... Oh well. Good luck with finding commissioners ^^ If you haven't done it already, posting your commission journal in alot of commission groups could help abit with the publicity.
