I guess my mom considered it honoring the rats for their lives by seeing them off, or being there as they died. We'd bury our rats in the back yard, and my sister and I would collect old jewelry and dragon eyes and place then on top of the graves. Although the dying part was always hard, I guess it got me sorta accustomed to death at a younger age than most people.
A 7-YEAR-OLD GERBIL!!!!!!!!!!!! 
Was it like bald and decaying on it's paws? I don't think gerbils are meant to be that old...
Okay, weirdest rat story ever. Are you ready?
My mom thought it would be cute to let one of our rats get pregnant and have cute little baby rats. Little rats are so cute, so me and my sister were totally excited! We dropped off our rat named Lily at a petstore to let her breed, then picked her back up at the end of the week. She GOT HUGE!!! She was like ball with little rat legs.
Then one night, my mom cried to me and my sister "She's giving birth!" We all crowded around the cage, but we couldn't tell what was going on because she was in her dark little rat house. My sister got a flashlight, and we shined it into the house and saw five, pink, sightless baby rats. My mom told us to turn it off in case we provoked her. In the morning, the baby rats were gone. We looked all over the cage until we over-turned the rat house and found.... HALF OF A BABY RAT!!!! SHE'D EATEN ALL HER BABIES DURING THE NIGHT!!!!!
I think that night seriously messed me up as a child.

Haha, we should of called the our girble Firestar instead of Mr. Zonders. The first family called him Zonder, the second called him Mr. Zonder and we called him Mr. Zonders. His name change all the right amout of times too. Well, if you dont count the name Rusty. We dug all our pets graves too but we didnt give them flowers or anything. By the time we moved there was 8 fish, 1 girble, some other pet I cant rememeber and a cat burried in our lawn. Well actually we burried the cat in a valley and gave him a cross.

Firestar the girble.... somehow, the name seems too fierce. I think little kids come up with the best names. My step-sister named her guinea pig Cassie Strawberry. I was like: OHMAGAWD THAT'S SOOOO CUTE!!!!!
And she gave me this funny look....
Where'd they get the name Zonders?
I've lost count of all the pets we have buried.
All I know is that we've lost rats, fish, cats, chickens, hissing cockroaches (which got lost in the house and my mom flipped

My friend has killed many many hampsters. 7 I think. All by accident though.
Her cousin (who is in our school and grade) always makes fun of her for wanting to give one a bath (it ended up dying), leaving one out side (died too), and I dont rememebr how the other all died.
Ill have to ask her sometime.

Yeah, actually, chickens are really good pets. You can train them to come up to the fence, and then you can feed 'em a corndog or something. THEY GO CRAZY!!!
Marie, my sister's chicken, is really affectionate and will let you pick her up and pet her. And plus, we don't have to buy eggs at the store anymore! Have you ever made scrambled an egg that was still warm in it's nest? It's so yummy!!!

Yep. They can be really nice once you get to know them and their personalities.
We have bad hamster stories as well.
Our first one died by getting fried when I crawled down the heat grate.
Another died from unknown causes and was half-eaten by the other hamster when we found it.
And the other hamster who ate the last one died of obesity.
