I like berserk too, it's well, the only good fantasy manga/anime I've seen, like AT ALL. Most other fantasy manga/anime are too D&D/Video game based (I'm looking at you SAO, Black Swordsman Kirito by left buttcheek!)

Honestly? Same. I feel you. Not that I've tried to watch many, but the ones I have were just... eh. The most recent one I tried was The Ancient Magus' bride as my best friend suggested it to me & I'd seen manga panels of it beforehand, but I barely got through four episodes before I lost interest. It just seemed like the usual, clichΓ© fantasy romance that appealed to young women. Not to mention, the whole "you're only 15 & I'm probably like 1000s of years old but I've decided you're going to be my wife" or something like that. I don't remember the specifics but it just felt really off.
SAO was awful & I didn't know until years later why it was. I dodged a bullet because I only ever watched two episodes. I can't help but chuckle whenever I see Kirito being called the The Black Swordsman after discovering Berserk.Β

That's okay. So, I've never understood why Griffith did the whole eclipse thing. Like why would he kill all his friends? I don't get it.

Well... short answer is they weren't his friends (except for Guts). & that he's a manipulative, controlling bastard behind all that humble knight act.
When he was talking to Princess Charlotte at the time of Julius' assassination he babbles on about how despite the fact his soldiers are loyal to him, he does not regard them as friends because they are not his equal. To him they are more or less just pawns to his ambition. Even Casca. Griffith isn't dense, he was completely aware of her feelings towards him & he definitely used that to his advantage. Like when he threw himself upon Casca in the wagon after they rescued him. He wanted her to pity him so that she & (or more importantly) Guts might stay.
The final string snapped when that didn't work as he wanted it to. Guts was still intent on leaving, & even some of the Hawks wanted to go with him. He was so angry & upset with Guts, as well as the fact that he was crippled for life with no chance of achieving his dream that sacrificing all his soldiers was a lucrative, perhaps even generous deal to him. He regains his body, along the power to achieve his dream & he gets his very personal revenge on Guts in one fell swoop at the price of the soldiers he barely cares for. The way I see it, his soliders were just snacks while Guts (& possibly Casca as well) was the main course in the Eclipse.

Thanks for clearing that up! For the longest time, I couldn't find a straight answer as everyone on every website, from Reddit to Youtube had their own version that just didn't sound true, so thanks again!

I like dark fantasy also, as as they don't go grimdark and make the world just a puddle of nihilism were everyone is as massive asshat (like Warhammer 40K!). I find it very interesting.
So anyway, my idea for an RP is set a fantasy setting I've been working on. Think Berserk but a bit more overtly magical and with other fantasy races like Elves and Dwarves. If you're not interested because of this very poor description, that's because I'm honestly very bad as describing it to other people.

Nice summary of Warhammer 40K; not that I've played it, but I let my friend ramble on a couple hours about it & from what little I know? That's pretty accurate, haha.
That's fine. I'm lit as soon as you say "think Berserk". :') I'd love to hear more! You don't have to write a whole lot or describe it eloquently, but do you think you can elaborate a little? Say, the ideal characters we'll use, rough plot, relationship dynamics, etc.

Well, I sorta like to play by ear when it comes to the plot based on both my and the other person's characters. In terms of characters you can be any race like an Elf, Man, Dwarf, Ork or what have you and I have a few ideas for mine, but nothing outlandish like a Tiefling or Genasi, as being a dark, medieval setting, most of the too fantastical races (Tieflings, Aasimar, Genasi etc.) either don't exist or would be hated by everyone, killed at birth or abandoned in the wilds to die.
Also, I would avoid being a sorcerer, simply because you don't know how magic works in my setting. Furthermore, unlike other settings, I pride myself on making it seem believable and (mostly) true to how people would act in a medieval fantasy world, as such, the other races of the world are also superstitious, bigoted and other personality traits common to the accepted mindset of the time-period in which it's inspired by, just because Dwarves have guns and Elves are more spiritual then most, doesn't mean that Men are the only people who can fanatically hate magic/mages, be close-minded and irrationally superstitious!
(That's part of the reason why I find High Fantasy sorta boring. Being a fantastical non-human race, shouldn't give you a modern person's outlook on the world.)

Ah, I see. I'm loving all the thought (especially regarding magic, races & historical accuracy in psychological aspects - people were certainly... odd back then, in comparison to now) you put into this world so far! Feels good, man.Β Β
No need to worry about sorcery from me. I'm a bit of a simple person in that aspect normally, anyway. As much as I love grandiose magic displays, I also just love hitting things with other things until they break.Β Β―\_(γ)_/Β―Β I normally play barbarian in D&D for that reason.
I'll start thinking about what kind of character I want to play, though I'd like to hear what ideas you had for yours too so I can synergise a little. You reckon a half-elf would be viable in this kind of world? I know halves have probably been played to death, but I've never really done so myself. It's only an idea though. I usually just default to human most of the time.

Yes, Half-elves are a thing and I think that'd be cool. But would they be more Elf or Man? Worship Human gods or Elf? In regards to my character(s), I have a few ideas: A wandering ronin from the far east, an elderly knights-errant or maybe a priest or wizard.

Hm. Well I've started to piece a character together & so far she's looking to be more human than elf (as a result of being raised in a human-heavy environment, of course). I like the sound of the first two, or even a wizard, considering the setting. Have you fleshed out any of them?

The Ronin, yes. And The Wizard to a lesser extent. Also, if dark subjects make you uncomfortable, I'll try to avoid them, however their are sill dangers and limitations inherent in being a woman in a setting such as this, so people are gonna think that you're weak or lesser them them simply because your character is female.
