Lemme ask you: Did you ever get a permission to use those pictures? Just because you credit them doesn't mean it's ok. If someone would use my original art without my permission, even if it had a credit I would flip my shit over. But that's, because I actually do my own art. look up copyrights, its this amazing thing im studying that states when you credit original owner for a reference or used as a base BUT to create your own character is no breach. Using said base but only changing the hair color or eye color or clothing, what ever, is stealing because your taking that persons idea. No one owns a pose, its the characters design. So before you go around saying youre stealing youre stealing, get your facts straight. wither a reference or used as a base, as long as it is your own character design and you credit the base, you aren't breaking any laws.

While they may not be breaking serious laws(only just, y'know, the law in the Deviantart terms of service) it still isn't okay. While no one owns a pose, that isn't the point. The point is, is that they do not own the image itself. That's the problem here. That stuff isn't even ALLOWED on DEviantart. dA is a place to showcase YOUR OWN WORK. They may own the ocs, but they sure as hell don't own those images.
At the end of the day, I can probably let them off if they're just doing it for fun. There's no way they could make a legit career out of it.

Your friends use a screenshot of picture done by other people as a base. They draw over it and change some details and present it as their own. You say that is ok?
But when someone else does the exact same thing to your friends you flip you shit over.
Also there's things called
"heavily referencing" (Basically this is just "nicer" version to copy)
"copying"
and "Plagiarism"
Basically all those mentioned above are just as bad crimes as stealing.
