Hey, thank you for the comments and the fav
You americans are so cool, you have real stories and big histories with your cars. We germans, too, but not so emotional.
When I sometimes watch "Overhaulin" and see the people so overwhelmed with emotions or screaming "Yeah"...it's amazing.

Wow, thanks man, that's awesome to hear. Yeah, old school American muscle is amazing. Unfortunately, though, while American cars have progressed they've lost that raw charm that earlier cars had. Every car, even the most basic ones, used to boast a certain amount of class and now I can't tell a Ford Focus from a Honda Accord or a Dodge Challenger from a Ford Mustang. I hate how these neo-muscle cars have old school names, I feel like they haven't earned them. It's a dying art. I hope I never see the day where my kids romanticize driving a Kia like I romanticize my '66 Mustang. While all these identical cars pile up in traffic I change lanes and roar past them all. That...that would be hard to do in a 2.0 Liter.

Germany has produced quite a few nice cars in it's day. Americans boast while you guys just sit there looking cool, haha. Unfortunately all this side of the world connects to your people is Volkswagen, Mercedes, Porche, and BMW but it's the old ones that capture my fancy. Don't downgrade your country's history, it's rich in emotion; With cars and with everything else.

You're right. But you do the same with yours. The new Camaro is soo awesome, but in Germany it's too expensive...about 45000 Euro (basis version), that's about 67000 Dollars. And when you look at the mileage with 14,5 l per 60 miles...it's very very very expensive for me. In Germany you pay 5 Euro for one gallone. That's about 7.5 Dollars. And when you want a german car in Germany, it's expensive too. I can't buy me a german car with the money I get.
I think old german cars were absolutely cool, but very rare. The chance to get an american oldtimer is much better, than getting a german one. Because we have a institution called TÜV (TUV). They're controlling every car each 2 years. They're doing it hardly by the book. I hope you can understand my terrible english...for many words, I'm using a dictionary. Maybe I found some wrong words lol

Wow, that is absolutely insane. Those prices are ridiculous. I mean, the prices here in America have risen due to the current economic state but it's not nearly that bad. A new basic (V6, I mean) Mustang, Challenger, or Camaro would probably be around $23,000 here, and a switch to the V8 version would still be under $30,000 for most of those cars. For the more deluxe versions (like the Shelby Mustang), they usually go up to around $40,000 which is expensive but nowhere near the $67,000 in Germany. $7.50 for one gallon? I couldn't afford that either, especially since I got laid off from work. Wow, that sucks man. I'm sorry to hear that.

Your English is awesome for just using a dictionary (or an online translator). I'm having no problem understanding you. I'd help you out and speak in German but, unfortunately, the only language besides English that I know is Spanish, haha.

Spanish? I can only say Olé
With the gas, we have a lot of taxes on it. The most part of the money goes to the state, and a very very small part is for the gas station.
The curious thing is, that german cars in Amerika are cheaper than in our own country. Funny...isn't it?
And hey, thank you for the flowers. Good to know, that my english is well

SlowburnDarkly In reply to QBit71 [2009-10-20 03:04:11 +0000 UTC]

It's not so much funny that German cars are cheaper in America as ridiculous. People should be able to afford the cars that their country produces. I honestly don't know much about your government but it sounds to me like it's wronging it's own people. I can say the same about my own government as well, but that's a different matter.

In my country, the oil companies take the biggest chunk our of gas sales but the government does get a greedy percentage as well. My brother owns a gas station (which I used to work in, actually) and they get virtually nothing from gas sales, just a cent or two if they're lucky.

QBit71 In reply to SlowburnDarkly [2009-10-20 09:29:47 +0000 UTC]

That's the same in Germany, at the end of the money, there are only a few cents left. But with the difference, my government blame it to the oil companies.
We're not guilty! So they say. And with the expensive cars...Germany ist the world champion in exportation. But the import is getting ill, more and more.
The problem we germans have, is, that the government closes all coalmines and then they buy the coals abroad. Now they want to do away with the nuclear power plants. I mean...we have one of the most safety nuclear technology, and then we're going to buy it abroad?
I think you know the same in America...closing all car factories in the own country and then you must buy your own cars "abroad". The thing I want to say is...why can't we produce the things for these we have so many resources in our own country? And then we can export it. It's a tender subject.
In the fifties it was all so cool (sure not all in your country, but the most) and so simple. Why can't it be simple today again?

SlowburnDarkly In reply to QBit71 [2009-10-20 13:31:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, no government claims to be guilty. That's the problem. Corruption is everywhere. To be quite honest with you, I believe Bush was behind 9/11 and there is plenty of evidence scattered around to back that up. A lot of my fellow Americans would call me a traitor for even accusing the government of that but I'm rebellious in that way, I see not pointing out the faults and tyranny of one's government as being a traitor. I point out these faults because I feel that they can be fixed; Not abandoned, not accepted.

I agree with you about the whole imports/exports issue. It is a very tender topic for most but I see eye to eye with you on it. It sounds like Germany's situation is a bit more dire than ours, which is unfortunate. You're right, America has sold out when it comes to the car companies. When Obama got elected we thought he might make our economy better but he really only made things worse. But we live in an age of inaction. We're taught that America is the greatest country in the world, that the rest is our pawns, but yet all we can do when we disagree with something the government does is talk about it. I'm sick of this superiority complex that America has towards the rest of the world, you know? All the average American knows about Germany is the Holocaust, which is sad because your country is beautiful and it's rich in history far beyond ours.

You're right, countries should use their own resources and THEN export. It strains the working class people on both sides of the spectrum. I wish it could be simple too but too many people are grabbing for a share that they haven't earned. Do other Germans feel as strongly about this as you do?

QBit71 In reply to SlowburnDarkly [2009-10-20 21:02:12 +0000 UTC]

Yes, they do. But all in all, we are a nation of people who don't fight against injustice. So many strikes going to be harmless, because everyone knows how will it end. With no ideas or bad solutions. And tomorrow, we're all going to work again. Sometimes, I think...hey the french people are cool, when they think, that someone's kidding them, you can see a riot, or a small revolt. But it's sad to hear or see, that people get hurt on both sides.
Well, sometimes I believe in the words Roland Emmerich's "2012": What would the government do, when the world goes down?......Nothing!
They would all save their own asses.
But hey, life is long, and in that time, many things can change. When you look backwards, many things have changed in the last 50 years. What will be in the next 50 years? Don't take me for a fool, but I think, that Obama is the next president who will be shot...by the government. When someone wants to change the system...the system changes him.
But I think also, that Obama is the right man, to lead the united nations. America has a big responsibility. Every nation with nuclear weapons has a big responsibility. When you can destroy the world, you must have the courage to keep the balance of the world. Without using weapons. The problem is...Obama is a lonely man, too many others in the government can manipulate the system, and that's a sad truth. We are human beings, it's our nature.

SlowburnDarkly In reply to QBit71 [2009-10-21 07:23:32 +0000 UTC]

Obama is a lonely man...huh, I don't think I've ever quite heard it put like that before. It's an interesting way to put it. To me, he seems as if he has no clue what he is doing. I can understand why you feel he is lonely because during his campaign he seemed to have all the answers, and without a doubt he was being coached to make all the right moves. He was our white night. I voted for him because he seemed so different than McCain, who represents the same old white collar conservative warlords that ran this country for so many years. He is different, but it became clear after he was elected that he really didn't expect to really succeed. He became a kid in a candy store with no real concept of how the grown up world works. While I didn't fully trust him as most did, the change came as a shock to me. He was our white knight who failed up when we needed his leadership the most.

The idea of him being assassinated isn't as crazy as you might think, a few Americans said the same thing from the start. Not for your reasons, though; some skinheads were caught on the night of Obama's election for planning his assassination. Race is, unfortunately, still under our breath in this country. My generation sees all people as equals and judges people from their actions alone, but in the cracks of America is where people can't accept something as small as this. My father is 63 years old and in his time racism wasn't such a bad thing and he still is very racist. He's working on it, though. Even in his worst days, though, he wouldn't have killed a black man. A lot of people would; both whites and African-Americans. Some back-woods whites don't like that he represents our country just because he's black and some blacks don't feel that he represents their people well enough.

Assassination by the government, though...that's where it gets controversial. Americans watch CNN and the world we see through that portal is all that is out there in our minds, but that isn't true. I would say that if Obama did all of the things that he promised in his campaign, then yes, but in reality the man is too corruptible. He'll sell his beliefs if threatened, assuming that they were truly his in the first place. He's too unstable to run the UN, as is any mainstream politician that we have to offer. I do agree that nations with nuclear weapons should hold their huge responsibility seriously, though. I just feel that serious changes need to be made to America's infrastructure, that the average person needs to grow a pair long enough to rebel against this corruption and injustice and to once again create a country based upon the people's values, not the government's. America will bomb this world to shreds soon if we don't get the same revolution that we had in the '60s, or even better, during our Civil War. It wasn't about slaves, it was about people doing what they wanted to do and not accepting "you can't do that" as an answer. This is why I'm so against America meddling in the rest of the world, especially in places such as Afghanistan and Iraq; Because we don't have our own shit sorted out, so how can we tell the rest of the world how to live?
