i actually think this is a great idea for a group.. its not for popularity.. its simply to suggest that these are great artists, after all here on dA.. its not about popularity.. its about the art.
but if you don't mind i'd like to make a suggestion for two really amazing traditional artists?

I don't know why people are complaining. They say it's a popularity contest, and that it lowers self esteem.....REALLY? If anything it's inspiring. I love coming to this page. People don't want to admit, but some artists are just really good! You have to admit that the really popular artists on here....are popular because they are good! These are some of the people that we should look up to and learn from. Not get mad at a page that showcases their abilities. Some have to work harder than others...true, but dang...don't be hatin' D8

All those "popular" deviants had to start somewhere, too. They all started out as newbies and they, too, used to draw "horribly". If you think you deserve the attention more than those 'top artists' do, then WORK your way up there instead of whining.
If you think deviantART is lowering your self-esteem, then leave. It's simple as that.

DeviantART is totally not a popularity contest nor do they intentionally lower self-esteem.
If they did, there would be something stupid like a directory of Top Artists, but that's never gonna happen.
