Ha. I am excited to see what develops (little photography humour, haw haw I hate myself for punning, if you shoot me in the face nobody will blame you).
Also, I am about 80% sure your tagline is a quote from an Anarbor song (Always Dirty, Never Clean, methinks?) so that pretty much means you are a good person who is kind to small animals. Or something. Anyway, liking Anarbor makes you cool.

(i prefer to stab with a fork! haha just kidding)
yes it is! congrats! haha! thats one of my favorite songs by them, i listened to it on a loop for a few days! (i do that a lot when a song strikes me)

(Nobody would blame you for that, either. Also, if it is not fatal I will have an awesome scar and a story to tell about how puns are bad because they get you assaulted with cutlery.)
It is definitely one of their best. I think maybe I slightly prefer The Brightest Green, though. I do the same thing with songs, actually. Usually with songs that have really annoying hooks that irritate my housemates/family depending which house I am in at the time.
Do you know Kids In Glass Houses? I have noticed a lot of people who enjoy Anarbor also seem to like them. [link]

hahaha!!! the only class i enjoy is photography, i often here joke when we leave the dark room like "here come the vampires" and "oh my eyes! they burn!" im used to horrible photography and darkroom puns.
oh i do like that one too, that was the first song i heard by them actually. right now im on a gorillaz kick because i just got their new CD. its been like 5 years sense they made one! do you listen to them? its not the same genre at all but ill like their message. my old tag line was from them ( "reject false icons" ) they also talk a lot about the state of the world today and environmental stuff...its interesting and usually very sarcastic. [link]
i did not know them but now i do and i like very very much! : D

There is nothing quite like the smell of a dark room. I love it too much. One day, I will have my own, but for now I have to rely on my fond memories for the one at college. I also miss wearing a developer-stained labcoat that made me look like a mad scientist.
I have always enjoyed the Gorillaz, but never really got into them in a big way. Clint Eastwood is one of the all-time greats of my teen years, however, so they always get love for that.
KIGH are awesome, both because they make good music and also because they are Welsh and Things that are Welsh > Things that are not Welsh.

haha! i don't know many who agree with that but me, im the only one in my class that says "it smells like home". my friend spilled developer all over his arm and stained it yellow for a week! ... they don't make us wear labcoats and we touch the chemicals all the time...im a little concerned for my health now. however we're only using black and white which isn't as dangerous as color so thats good!
its every ones favorite, and it definitely stands out in all of their music.
haha! do you happen to be Welsh or are you just a fan of Wales? (that makes them much more interesting!)

W-Uno In reply to BridgetKeely [2010-03-30 01:08:12 +0000 UTC]
We didn't have to wear lab coats either, but I liked to because of the whole "mad scientist" thing. I was the only one in my class who enjoyed the darkroom smell too. Smell, emotion and memory are pretty closely linked in the brain (they all like to hang out in the amygdala, which is pretty much the place to be if you are visiting the medial temporal lobes), so if you are constantly smelling a smell when you feel all at-peace, then it will start to make you feel that way if you don't already. I don't know how people can not feel at peace in a dark room.
My favourite was always watching the photo appear out of the paper in the developer bath, as if someone invisible was painting it.
I am semi-welsh. I was not born here, but I have lived here as far back as I can remember. Welsh bands are the best. See also: Lostprophets. [link]

haha! well i feel much less in danger now! that does make it so much more fun, but we don't have that! ):
yes i've heard that a lot. i actually want to be a clinical psychiatrist so this is all fascinating for me. smell is one of the things you remember most, its more likely to trigger a memory than most stimuli (or so i've heard). i actually did a poem inspired by the brain...but its old and there for one of my not so well done writings haha
definately! i also like to burn and dodge for some reason...it just makes me feel so cool
sadly that video is no longer available in my country however i looked up the band and i liked them also. must add welsh to my list of not american music thats good!

I am in the middle of doing a psychology degree right now with a view to working in clinical psychology, so I am now pretty sure I was correct in my assessment that you are cool. I want to work with depression, anxiety disorders and possibly eating disorders, I think because they are curable, so everyone whose life is really negatively affected (or ended) by them, I feel like that is someone who has been let down by the system. That burns my biscuits, so I want to contribute to a system which fails fewer people.
Burning and dodging is fun because it is super hands-on, I think. It is the part of the development process which feels most like doing traditional art.
Ha. Sorry if I am inundating you with links, but introducing people to new music that they will enjoy is one of my favourite things to do. Probably because of the buzz I get when I find new bands. Vicarious enjoyment ftw.

BridgetKeely In reply to W-Uno [2010-03-30 02:08:54 +0000 UTC]
and that is why you are cool. hahaha!!!
and thats exactly why i wanted to do clinical psychiatry! how ironic?
im leaning more towards people who have experienced some sort of extreme trauma, its a very sad but also very interesting and i think it would be rewarding as well if i could help some one in such a horrible situation...though it might not be something that can be cured like depression, anxiety disorders and eating disorders which is a draw back.
thats a good reason...i had an ex who said photography wasn't art and complained when i edited photos, saying it was cheating. i told him about burning and dodging and he said it was about the same thing.
no thats fine, i love finding new bands! im always looking for them but fail badly!

W-Uno In reply to BridgetKeely [2010-03-30 09:17:48 +0000 UTC]
How rewarding it is is definitely one of the reasons I want to go into it, too. I ended up more counsellor than boyfriend to one of my exes who was suffering from depression, and even though that is not a great basis for a relationship (we could not come up with a better one because woah, incompatible) she credits me with helping her get to the point where she could come off antidepressants and be some form of okay, which is an amazing feeling. Trauma is definitely interesting, and I expect to see quite a lot of people with it myself, since it often results in the type of disorders I've mentioned, particularly around adolescence. I couldn't work with kids, but I definitely think I would want to work with teens.
What really upsets me is the number of people I see here, teenagers in particular, who are terrified of going into therapy. There's something seriously wrong with the way things are being done if it looks scary from the outside. I know someone who was prescribed anti-depressants without being given any advice about what she could expect or any information about when she would start receiving counselling... it was bullshit. Pardon my language. But considering that one of the major side effects is thoughts of suicide, especially in the first week, this is something that people need to know before they start taking them.
Pfah, people who don't consider photography to be art are fuddy-duddies. Art is a much broader term than that. And that thing about editing being cheating. I heard that a lot and I just think... as if all artists don't edit their work. They're constantly making changes to what they've already done. Maybe they should just have to stop when they've painted in the block colours. Anything else is cheating.
If you enjoy finding new music, you may like this website: www.thesixtyone.com It is where I found Anarbor, actually.

interesting, i had a similar situation where an ex was on anti depressants and had completely given up on relationships. but then he meat me and for some reason though i was fantastic and stopped taking his meds. sadly a few mounts later we found out we had nothing in common but we stayed together for a decent time (for a high school relationship) but hes with a different girl now and quite happy so it all ended well
i figured i would get a lot of that...i think i would like to work with adolescence or adults...i agree with the children thing though. i would also have a hard time detaching myself and my emotions would get in the way.
i've been trying to get my friend to go to therapy for years. finally i went out with her and that some how convinced her (for some reason most of my relationships are with people on or needing medication )but she refused to go again after the second visit. and your fiend could have been in serious trouble if she hadn't found out from you, i always hear about individuals on anti depressants who think they're getting worse because of the side effects.
i agree on the art thing. every time you erase a line you edit (aka "cheat"). haha
thanks for that ill look into it! (:

(That, by the way, would be a more obvious example of exactly what I was saying with that comment.)
No joke at all, Jason, you taking the time to say this has made my night.

Quite honestly, I find that most people here are prone to say such banal comments as "lovely", "amazing", "beautiful" when there is so much more to say or the piece of writing actually sucks. To see a response such as yours was surprising.
I just thought that you should know someone appreciates intelligence.
Im not sure if you are a watcher of asherlee or not. She is a very adept at portraying lost people but has hit a bit of a slump lately. Day One was a return of sorts for her as it had a much better flow, non forced feel than other, more recent works.

I've always tried to say something a little bit more insightful about the piece I'm commenting on. Usually I will only leave simple comments like you mention there if I'm too blown away or emotionally affected to comment more fully. I know too well the feeling that you will never amount to anything and that everything is futile, so when I saw a fellow writer expressing it I wanted to do something to explain why I don't feel that way any more.
I've been watching Asherlee for a little while, yes. I'm becoming something of a fan of the openness and the brokenness of her writing style.
