In regards to weedlace’s journal when you said "I have found that lack of conviction plays out in naive interpretation....maybe the creators of such art aren't committed to a message, but a trend."

I think your right! And I think that we all have a hard time distinguishing our interpretation of art with the artists intent, conscious or unconscious as it may be.

When we make art, we give it to the world, and the stories made from them are no longer under our control.

I do hate the waif look though I never thought about the necks, they are like heavy flowers on the stalk. Whenever the iconography of woman comes up it is prone to more speculation than an imagery of man.

claudiamm37 In reply to KanchanMahon [2011-10-08 18:13:47 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely...women have been the object of interpretation on so many levels.

I think my comment stems from the influx of crafts that bleed into a world of fine art by inciting interpretation. I am speaking of the journals and paper-crafts that don't necessarily have any more intention to them than their esthetics...how much they look like what the crafter sees in a book or magazine. Admittedly, we learn through imitation, but as an artist while we learn we open ourselves to that part of us that expresses itself, artists like yourself and Laura have intention in your work. I know how the process evolves, we don't always know what the end result will be, we trust that we are being guided, and we let our art happen. Therein lies the difference between arts and crafts. No judgement on one or the other. BUT when you look at the trend of big headed women on thin necks, you are left to pause, was this a mimic or intentional? If it is a stab at a trend, then no need for interpretation...where is the defining line? How do we know? We don't. UNLESS the art comes from someone I know to be an artist not a crafter ( I am careful to define the term crafter like craftsman, with all due respect for there ability), then I am left to admire the work esthetically.

There is another group that is also interested in your submissions! #Womanlyrespect is a group focused on promoting a healthy picture of womanhood. This group is for people who are looking for an inspiring, empowering look at women's bodies through all forms of art. Submissions are welcomed from both men and women. The group is looking for art with a female or a feminine principle as its subject.

Thanks for sending me β€œSparkle and Twinkle” Its gorgeous! Hard to know what to add to all that perfect loveliness.
I wanted to ask how everyone did the finish, i.e. the cards seem to be sealed, so I was wondering, I picked thru my stuff this am, and just wondered, I mean it’s so sturdy. All the cards have a finished, sealed appearance to them. Well I’m repeating myself … xxxoooxxxooo Kanchan
