I don't know why it took me so long to notice, but what did you mean by the theme? Am I overdoing something that I'm not seeing?

The theme to which I was referring was "Texture and Contrast". Specifically, how important they are and how often they factored into whether a piece succeeded or failed. Especially in black-and-white photography, texture and contrast balance are among your foundational considerations.
