I went back to school but I'll be done this year! The last few years have been busy and stressful. I'm juggling work and school but I enjoy it for the most part.

Thank You!!! I graduated with Health and Human Services. I was going to be into nursing but I didn't make it and im happy, just trying to figure out what to do job wise now.Β
What did you go back to school for? Are you still in the NYC area?

That's ok!
There are a lot of opportunities in health. Good luck with the job search! You could always go back to get a nursing degree later on if you still want it.
I went back for medical lab science. There are a lot of jobs and it pays decently but it's a bit repetitive and not well respected like nursing. Yep, I'm still in NYC.

I know there is but I'm just being lazy with applying particularly with cover letters!
I am thinking about it but maybe in a few years, I never took calculus or chemistry with lab so I would have to repeat some undergrad classes first.Β
Any job should be respected, are you planning to work in a hospital after?Β

I wasn't online earlier to say this sooner but Happy Birthday Anna~ I wish I had more freetime to draw like I used to but currently its kind of hard for me to draw with this cut on my finger. But I want to do some practice sketches so I'll draw ya something sometime. ^_^

Yeah it gets hard to find the time when you have a job. My days off seem to just fly by, I requested a third day off this week because I've just been soo tired and I want to help my grandma out a bit.

I hope you're feeling more well rested. I have too much stress and drama at work, so that drains all of my energy.

Well if you think of something you'd like just let me know.

I feel a little better today but I have a feeling tomorrow isn't going to be a very good day at work. My boss might not be there because his kid has been sick but if he doesn't show up then there will be just the two of us working and once she leaves I'll be alone for three hours. With my finger like this I can't work as fast as I used to...and I can't lift some things that I need. But yeah its the same for me work would be alot easier without the drama and if they didn't leave everything for me and/or my friend to do at the end of the day. I hope things get less stressful for you.

I'm starting on your art!! I think I'm gonna draw Aurelia since I've done a stick chibi of your other character before. owo

Question: where does she keep her two fans? Alternatively, where does she keep her staff when she's using her fans? A-also how does she use her fans/staff? I'm trying to think of action poses for her... 8'D

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hpanna47 In reply to SAmaryllis [2014-05-20 02:25:21 +0000 UTC]

Thankies! I'm starting yours as soon as I finish paint-coloring the one I'm working on. It's taking a lot longer than expected

I've been thinking about that, but haven't come up with a good solution. I could say she hangs them on her belt, but that's sloppy. XD I guess she just holds them (but that's impractical) or she summons them (but that's a cheap shortcut).
She only carries either her fan(s) or staff, not both at the same time. Her staff is more ceremonious. It helps her focus her magic/energy in the orb (which glows). Her fans magnifies her wind magic. If you've watched Inuyasha, it's like how Kagura uses her fan to create wind.Β

I'll try to make at least one stop to NYC! Where I'll be living is like 3 hours by car from NYC so might as well? I just need to arrange transportation for myself...maybe there's a train, or I can convince the other interns to go on a weekend trip with me...? >w>;;;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hpanna47 In reply to SAmaryllis [2014-05-24 02:42:47 +0000 UTC]

If you want to see the Statue of Liberty up close and Ellis Island you can take the Liberty Island ferry (it drops you off at Ellis Island after Liberty Island). But if you don't care to see it up close you can see it at a good distance from the Staten Island ferry for free. If you do take the Staten Island ferry do not go during rush hour, which is 8am-10am and 3pm-6pm (too many people and all the good seats are taken). Be sure to leave the terminal and walk around the promenade too. It has a nice view and a small 9/11 memorial; many people just return to Manhattan right away.

If you want to visit museums most have a suggested donation price, but you can pay whatever you want. A walk across the Brooklyn Bridge is nice too but it has a lot of tourists. Greenwich Village and the West Village is charming and historical.

Are there any particular things you're interested in seeing (touristy stuff, food, nature, views, etc.)? Also don't bring a car into Manhattan. The traffic is terrible especially in midtown and there's no parking. If you do drive I recommend parking it in the Bronx somewhere near the subway and using that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SAmaryllis In reply to hpanna47 [2014-06-10 01:17:27 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the info on the ferries!

I'm interested in touristy stuff, nature, and views! I think I may actually be going this weekend but it's being planned so hastily right now I don't even know if I'll have a roommate to split a hotel room with. Sighs....interns. Haha!

Also, is NYC pretty walkable? Would you recommend the uh. Subway? Or other public transit? *__*

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hpanna47 In reply to SAmaryllis [2014-06-10 04:26:15 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome. By the way, if you do take either of the ferries you should use the Bowling Green subway station via the 4 or 5 line. The Whitehall Street station is the closest but the R train is running a little differently on the weekend due to post-Sandy construction.

Good luck! Maybe a hostel if you don't mind that? Or a hotel outside of Manhattan near a subway station? Those would be cheaper options.

Parts of Manhattan are pretty walkable (lower Manhattan), but it'll still be a lot of walking. Definitely use the subway, it's very convenient, runs pretty frequently and is in service 24/7. You could also take the buses, but they're slower. Both use MetroCards ($2.50 per ride regardless of distance). It also gives you a free transfer from bus to train (or vice versa) within 2 hours. I think the subway map/system is pretty easy to understand but if you're unsure ask some non-tourist looking person. Most are more than willing to help. You can get a subway map from the station kiosk. Trains go in to directions (usually uptown or downtown) so know whether your destination is north from your current location (uptown) or south (downtown).

I haven't been there recently, but you want to visit the World Trade Center and the 9/11 museum you can take the E train to the last stop downtown. There are some pretty old churches nearby (one with the grave of Alexander Hamilton). If you go south you can walk to Wall Street and Battery Park (where the ferries are). The Staten Island ferry runs hourly on the weekend (ps: don't be like the foolish tourists lining up waiting for the ferry, walk past them and just crowd around the door). There is also a ferry to Governor's Island there that runs hourly. It's to the left of the Staten Island Ferry and is free in the morning (last free one is at 11am, I believe, otherwise the fee is $2). Governors Island used to house military personnel and has a fort there. It has colonial buildings but now it's used mainly for art exhibits (you can pop into the open buildings). Β Or if you walk northeast from the World Trade Center you can reach City Hall and Chinatown. Beware, Chinatown is very crowded, smelly in places, and very large. I get lost there XD.Β

Other touristy stuff...
Central Park: It's huge and most people visit the southern and mid sections. The northern section is a bit more wild, or so I've heard. It's nice but not that nice in my opinion.

American Museum of Natural History: It's on the west side of Central Park. It has a suggested donation but feel free to pay whatever you want. It has a planetarium, but the star shows are extra. Take the C train here (be aware the B doesn't run on weekends). The dinosaur exhibits are most popular. It has a neat rainforest diorama tunnel in the biodiversity hall too. And of course, the famous whale in the marine hall.

Metropolitan Museum of Art: On the east side of Central park, also has a suggested donations amount. It is HUGE! The Egyptian wing is popular, especially the area with the temple (Sackler Wing). It's very bright and nice there.Β

Brooklyn Bridge: The entrance is near City Hall. City Hall/Brooklyn bridge stop on the 4/5/6 line. If you decide you want to walk across the whole span (about 30 minutes) you can visit Brooklyn Bridge Park and/or Brooklyn Height Promenade, which is south of the park). They both have spectacular views. Just get off at the first pedestrian exit (Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO).Β

Times Square: I think it's too overrated and wayy too crowded. Not much to do there in my opinion, but if you want to visit and see the lights go ahead. It's mainly shopping and theater there, but ticket prices are expensive! There are ways to get cheaper tickets if you're willing to wait and take a chance but it's not worth it if you're only staying for two days.

High Line: Starts in the Meatpacking District/West Village (14st St) and ends in the 30s. You probably don't want to walk the whole distance. It's an elevated railroad track turned park. All the plants there are natives. The park and views are nice but I think it's a bit overrated. You can get there with the A/C/E line to West 14th Street. Walk west and south to Gansevoort St for the the entrance (I work nearby). They do a lot of shoots and filming in the area and there are outdoor tables for people to relax at. Chelsea and Google headquarters are nearby.

Roosevelt Island: Not so touristy. It's a thin strip of island located between Manhattan and Queens. You can get there by the F train. There's a tram there that connects to Manhattan. It takes metrocards and free transfers to/from the subway. I hear the view is nice but the ride is very short. Roosevelt island has benches along the shore where you can watch boats pass by and it has an awesome view of the UN and the Manhattan Skyline. The southern tip has a new park (although it's more like a tree lined plaza) and the ruins of a building which used to be a smallpox hospital.

The only nature stuff I can think off are out of the way, so it'll probably won't be worth your time getting there for a weekend trip.
