yeah actually I used both, the tablet really helps when drawing freehand and photoshop for the multiple layers and gradient effect

oh cool. i got to get me one of those. i mostly draw in pencil on paper, but have been meaning to try that out. although im sure most of the techniques i use would not work on a tablet... and i'd have to learn how to draw without looking at my pen, which is pretty difficult. and i can't draw with a mouse worth crap.

I find it easier to draw an outline or guidelines on pen and paper, scan it in then go over the lines and paint it in photoshop. It takes a while to get used to drawing with a tablet but if you hold the stylus close to the tablet without applying pressure you can see the cursor. I'm also crap with a mouse
