Depends what kind of result you want. I think everything must look good. For example, you create a character, start with basics, you need a good anatomy, or else it won't look good. If you start coloring without checking that the anatomy is well done, the coloring won't seem good. The results won't seem good. Adding anything else won't seem good.Β
π: 0 β©: 1
alexandersinnelius In reply to lightning-13 [2016-11-01 03:56:39 +0000 UTC]
well, i can discuss more of anatomy if you want...but i think your color impresses me
so much...
Do you start colour from the brightest, or the darkest?
Like that artwork i show you, i think it has similar qualities with yours...
How do you personally see yourself working on image like that?
Would you tackle the texture along the way, or do you add as you go?
π: 0 β©: 1
lightning-13 In reply to alexandersinnelius [2016-11-01 07:01:19 +0000 UTC]
depends what you mean, I start with low color values. You think so? XD maybe. Don't know, haven't really worked much with that kind of style. I add texture in the end.Β

Ah, i see...Β
Low color value, as in monochromatic?

lightning-13 In reply to alexandersinnelius [2016-11-01 08:12:14 +0000 UTC]
you can start with monochromatic also, some artists do Β

alexandersinnelius In reply to lightning-13 [2016-11-01 08:20:32 +0000 UTC]
Ah Β i see... do you think there's Β a good bit of reasoning why colors are darker or brighter by its pattern/position?
π: 0 β©: 1
lightning-13 In reply to alexandersinnelius [2016-11-01 08:48:20 +0000 UTC]
1) you determine the source of light
2) add shadows and darken areas accordingly

Ah... do you uh...list your color, somehow?
I mean like... it's really hard to choose color...other than red and blue, which is hot, cold, kinda visibly...
The other color doesnt have taste to me...
A palette is hard

yeah, check out adobes color wheel, it picks out matching colors and such. I didn't have much use of it because I just experiment a lot on my own. But it's good to have some basic knowledge. You have no idea how much colors help in making a painting look vivid XD depends how you use them, I see some artists use rich colors and their paintings are breathtaking!Β

Ah... i see...Β
I need some manner to help raise my pageview... techniques...
Posting lots of arts while not having a direction seems...distracting.
What do you think?
Color is my weakest part...do you have like, a guide whenever you art?
π: 0 β©: 1
lightning-13 In reply to alexandersinnelius [2016-11-02 09:18:42 +0000 UTC]
well yes, you do need a direction, like, what do you like to draw? once you figure that out, join some (relevant) groups, post your artwork there, that's a way to show your art to more people. You'll probably get more feedback also.Β
Try to experiment some more? use adobe's color wheel and experiment. I think it's this tricky part where you 'just' know which colors go well together. Some people have an eye for aesthetic, they see a scenery or painting or something, and immediately know which colors are wrong or correct. I guess that's why companies write in the artistic position's criterias that you need to have an eye for colors etc.Β
There are some facts about colors, like, what kind of feeling they give. You wrote about Red and Blue, red is a hot color, associated with e.g. love, passion, fire element, warmth, but it can also be associated with blood (how many horror movies have bloody red titles?) and so on. Blue is cold color, associated with e.g. ice, water, ice/water element, sea. It can also be associated with the sky.Β
Let's take Disney's Frozen for example. Elsa is the ice wizard, blue, lonely, mean, introverted, negative, closed. Anna is warm-hearted, funny, cheerful, emotional, adventurous, outgoing, helpful etc.Β
So if you were asked to create a bad guy, which colors would you choose? colors that would fit his personality and character.

Hmmm, i see.... do you at my level, would you commision me?
Like, i keep checking if my art is missing something, and they just look...i dont know...varied.
What makes for good art?
Intense marketting? Lots of promotion?
π: 0 β©: 1
lightning-13 In reply to alexandersinnelius [2016-11-02 10:01:21 +0000 UTC]
Well, I don't do much commissions generally
People have to like your creations. So what makes your art so extraordinary? Β that's why I was talking about quality before. Your creations could have something more than quality that people like, but it still has to maintain some kind of quality.Β
Do you look up to some artist? thinking wow I wonder how he/she created that part or that thing, and exercising hard to reach that level?Β
You talked about video games and films before, about animation, that's a specific position. It varies from company to company but I think that animators generally create characters and objects in 3d and then animate them. They work closely with concept artists but they don't create that kind of art. They use some kind of 3d software for both tasks.Β

You play FFXV?
π: 0 β©: 1
lightning-13 In reply to alexandersinnelius [2016-11-02 12:06:02 +0000 UTC]
no, is it even released yet? sorry I have kind of given up on SE. I watched the movie, kingsglaive, and as usual they polished the graphics to perfection, got good actors, but I didn't really get the meaning, didn't really think the ending was relevant either. It feels like they try to be as fast as possible, by reusing assets (like we talked about), for example they used in game creatures and effects, but it doesn't make the story/concept/movie better. It's better to take some time and think of something more original and interesting.Β
Have you played ff brave exvius? I played a bit during summer, and once again it seems just like any other ff game. There might be some slight changes but overall it seems like I'm playing a standard ff game. And the characters feel the same, same haircuts, same gloves, same personality, even similar clothes to previous characters. There's always a spiky dude, always an airship and a pilot named Cid etc. FF12 was about the same, you follow the story but can also complete tasks, just like in brave exvius, you have a story but you also complete tasks and get rewards.Β
Now I don't know whether the remake of ff7 will be a success or not, but last I heard Β they wanted to make it huge and divide it in small stories or something like that, which means they will finish the first chapter at some point and release it, and then you will have to buy chapter 2 in order to continue the story, and so on. You pay for each story/chapter. They were saying in an article something about PS4 not selling enough there so in order to make people buy PS4 they decided to remake ff7, but it's probably not entirely true because they try to earn more money as well. You see, not enough good ideas XD ff7 was great the way it was, now I don't know how much more complicated it will become and if it will feel like a never-ending story. Of course I want to experience the game in amazing sound and graphics and effects, but there is a limit.Β
FF13 was almost a disaster, lol, I read that they had lots of issues the last second but still, I don't think I read one single good thing about it. I liked the battle system to be honest, but other than that? oh and the actors, they have good actors, charming. They reused assets from old characters, lightning/cloud, seifer/snow, and so on. It's too obvious. And I actually had a chinese teacher in University who confirmed this, that a way to create new characters was to reuse parts of old ones, but in the end you create similar characters and it's not really new.Β
I just hope they don't ruin ff7..Β

Wow... that`s quite a bit of review now... Well i cant argue with those... maybe we should paint our favorite entry of the series to remind us the good old ff.
FF is pretty old now, i wonder if it is reaching what it is? Like, those are their stereotype,
So they stick to the old formula...
While ffxv feels fresh to me, like really fresh, except for the limited all boys party.
I think kingsglaive feels huge... its like they created an entire world ecosystem. The writing was confidently western by nature. It is truly a show of knowledge. Almost a showoff even, which is, always how any scifi games or movie tend to appear. very snobby.
But that hollywood climax though, i think it is a good approach for them to lower those details and focus on the character acting.
Of course, unfortunately, being 3d and expensive, i think FF as a franchise are just huge... its very hard for them to offer less since the lore makes the game wide and rich. So rich to the point of stupid and snob.
Which entry do you like the most? Or which entries?

lightning-13 In reply to alexandersinnelius [2016-11-02 13:50:46 +0000 UTC]
hehe yeah I agree. I'm totally amazed by their details and artistic talents, I hardly think any other company uses that extreme detail, but on the other hand it doesn't necessarily make the game/movie any better. You know what I mean? I think many would agree with me on this, I focus more on having fun while playing/ to actually enjoy a movie, than just stare at beautiful design or not understand what is going on. That's also a bit tricky because they sometimes come up with too abstract or vague stories, it must make more sense in their own eyes.
They shouldn't offer less, they should try to be clearer and make each game unique. They have run out of ideas, and instead add lots of features, fighting arenas, tasks, etc. I know Blizzard made the same mistake with Diablo3, added lots of features, and in the end they admitted that there really was nothing to do in the game. I think that damn Auction House was wrong from the beginning.
I've discussed this a lot with my friends, have we grown up and no longer become amazed or is it companies who can't find ways to amaze us anymore?Β
They created 15 series of ff and yet only a few were a big hit. I realize that ff is pretty old now.. maybe gone forever?
I like the boys gang in ff15, feels different. I have no idea though how the gameplay is like, the battle system, the world etc.Β
Yeah, good old ff xD no idea, let me think, what about you?
π: 0 β©: 1
alexandersinnelius In reply to lightning-13 [2016-11-03 04:58:44 +0000 UTC]
Blizzard simply has no idea what to do anymore with Diablo 3.
It seems like a good economy to do the auction house.
I'm pretty focused on FFXV right now, since it has that vibe of 7 and 8 adventchildren and all the emo punk
feel of the 2000 music...I don't know. Just like you say, FF always has that thing that goes around its franchise...
...I really like dissidia though. just for the gameplay...
Speaking of which, are there like world concept art of final fantasy 7 or 8?
Or just any concept book art for any FF game?
I've never thought about any of them in my entire life.
π: 0 β©: 1
lightning-13 In reply to alexandersinnelius [2016-11-03 08:46:15 +0000 UTC]
Yeah auction house was a benefit for them, but on the other hand it destroyed the whole meaning of the game. People knew that they could just buy everything they wanted, but the whole idea from the beginning was to put time and effort into building a strong character, so what's the point if I get everything from the beginning? apart from that, people kept nagging about the design, the old style had more depth and seemed much more realistic and appropriate. They took a lot of time to make everything work, and in the end when they released the game they had created such a big hype, everybody was waiting, only to become disappointed.Β
Did you ever try Path of Exile? I think it was created after D3, I liked that kind of game even more than D3 lol, I met lots of D3 fans there.Β
Last I heard Blizzard were going to improve Diablo 2 again, it would be the same game, only more polished and improved. It will run smoothly and be compatible with the new systems etc. It reminds me, old games are the best XD I'm afraid I won't have a life outside my room and computer after they release the improved version of d2 XDD
SE did remake ff10 also, was it a success? didn't read anything about it. But in my opinion ff10 was fine the way it was, it had pretty high quality from the beginning.Β
Is it? sounds great.Β
I haven't played dissidia.
I think each game has its own concept, otherwise it wouldn't work. They all have different styles, different towns/characters/items/environment etcΒ

alexandersinnelius In reply to lightning-13 [2016-11-03 11:58:06 +0000 UTC]
haha well, the old games felt really like a book. The whole idea of multiplayer nowadays is so that everyone can share the same kind of ecosystem and economy... but then, the sacrifice are all in depth characters and world, and the whole idea with real economy degrades any human value into a strata.
fiction always has this crazy feeling of confidence, regardless of the situation or imbalanced situation... speaking of which, have you ever tried world building practice? I am learning game making but it stucked at the narrative.

lightning-13 In reply to alexandersinnelius [2016-11-03 14:40:57 +0000 UTC]
I think I still feel strongly about the old, more 'unfair', system at least it was more exciting and you had to be fast and alert. I just think there has to be a reason for why fans left D3 pretty quickly, while me and my friends played D2 for at least 2 years nonstop, without getting bored! Β A game must have some kind of interest, challenge, something, otherwise I don't understand why play it?Β
no?
