What are your thoughts on making more larger planes? Like the Beaufighter, or the PBY/Catalina?

Small-Brown-Dog In reply to nordicberserk [2018-04-09 18:46:09 +0000 UTC]

I need to look at a big British heavy thats for sure.
Next is UV maping and texture for the Hound but I need to build a medium German bomber for it to take down for an image idea I have.
Everything is possible and an aircraft like the PBY/Cat would be very interesting.

Wasnt it primarily used as a sub hunter?

Crazy brainwave; it hunts subs by diving from patrol altitude, into the water, and hunts the sub down, as a submarine.
Kinda like that one scene from Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

Small-Brown-Dog In reply to nordicberserk [2018-04-10 15:59:40 +0000 UTC]

Going to need to pressurise the crew compartment, water proof all the electrical hardware, and have a quick way of sealing off the air intakes and exhaust outlets once submerged and rely on batteries.
Interesting though

nordicberserk In reply to Small-Brown-Dog [2017-12-07 17:38:07 +0000 UTC]

I think my idea gave you an idea for a sort of Uboat/very heavy fighter combo.

To be fair, it would have to be either that, a Uboat/destroyer combo, of the germans developing a ballistic missile sub.

nordicberserk In reply to Small-Brown-Dog [2017-10-18 17:23:15 +0000 UTC]

I had one of them brainwaves that clobbers you at unexpected moments;

Now this is assuming that the overall war progresses more or less like WW2 did, so Great Britain still needs US convoys for supplies and raw materials.
So, since full on flying ships are no longer safe (and I'm assuming that regular ships are cheaper for bulk transport roles), how about a short range "hop" for convoy ships?

What I mean is this; a German U-boat has come across a convoy, and launches torpedoes. They get discovered (or a ship is hit) and the convoy engages the antigrav, so they float above teh oceans surface, avoiding the torpedoes.
Kinda seems like a stopgap thing that might be put into place to aleviate the U-boat threat, no?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Small-Brown-Dog In reply to nordicberserk [2017-10-18 17:46:13 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I was having some thoughts on this myself and your suggestion fits in as, as war goes, one side meets a threat with new tech and the the other side counters it. So, if we have these short hop cargo ships that can get out of the way of surface attack what we need is a half Uboat/half aircraft thing that can do much the same and blast the crap out of the cargo ship in the air as well

... would come as a big surprise too.

Thanks for that as I need ideas although I am working on something very different but fun which should ready in about a week.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nordicberserk In reply to Small-Brown-Dog [2017-10-21 16:35:50 +0000 UTC]

It was either that, or make them be able to dive for short periods.

"Whats that, german U-boat? You are diving to launch torps? We can do that too!"

*Cut to U-boat captain watching in confusion as the entire convoy vanishes beneath the waves*

Probably way harder to pull off. Also would be unsafe to be on deck, during emergency dive ^^
