As for your question about dA being dead, that's certainly not the case. Β Indeed, I think it's bigger than it's ever been. Β However, it has also gotten more corporate of late, and seems to be losing that old informal symposium feel that it had a half-decade ago. Β There are strengths and weaknesses to both approaches, but I think the folks who are looking for laid-back wool-gathering are focusing more heavily on things like Tumblr, while people who are looking to make a living are looking to things like Patreon. Β Then again, a lot of them are using these media, while still hanging out on dA.
Anyway, many of us are planning to stick around for a good long while. Β ^_^
