When I used that picture as inspiration it somehow developed into a victorian fantasy world where the aristocratic class is all powerful and their treatment of subordinates is not exactly prissy.

All lower class people live in constant fear that they could make a mistake that would enrage someone of higher standing, so that they have to go to court. There they are usually sentenced to do time in unconditional enslavement as punishment. The condemned are then drawn by lot to one of the nobles present.

Sometimes members of higher rank also manipulate the process a little to get a certain condemned person delivered to their household and bypass the lottery.

Or to add a few years to the sentence for their personal amusement or revenge.

Any writer who feels the urge to write a story in this alternate universe is welcome to do that. I am not much of a writer myself and would love to read a few stories.

subthrone has written two exquisite episodes in this universe, the first one telling an alternate version of "The Resentful Lady", the second chapter telling us hwat the girl auctioned to the old lady is in for.

Chapter1:

VICTORIAN SLAVERY -- HIS CRIMEVICTORIAN SLAVERY -- HIS CRIME by Throne
First came the arrest. All the blond young man had been doing was running an errand. His employer had sent Bobby to deliver a message. On his way he ran into a chum and began trading jokes and ribald comments. His friend had suddenly grown quiet but Bobby, whose attention was on what he was saying, didn't notice the cause of the sudden silence. He went on, making a remark about a girl he knew, followed by braying laughter. Too late his friend elbowed him and nodded in the direction they were walking. Standing ahead of them was an aristocratic woman in a long dress and picture hat, an unopened parasol in her hand. She tilted back her head and looked down her nose at them. Obviously she had heard his unguarded words and -- worst luck possible -- had thought they somehow referred to her. Bobby would have never made such a grave error. The upper classes held absolute power over humble

Chapter2:

VICTORIAN SLAVERY -- TWO VICTIMSVICTORIAN SLAVERY -- TWO VICTIMS by Throne
Bobby was still in shock from the severity of his sentence. One of the heartless guards held him by his hair while the other knelt before him with some sort of metal device. He boldly tugged down the pants of the young man's prison garb, baring his genitals. Something cold went around the vulnerable organs, at their base, and was fastened tightly. The guard gave it a sharp tug, making Bobby yelp. Then the sadistic man raised the pants and reached through the fly to attach a long chair to the constricting ring. With his hands still held by the thumbscrews, ankles severely hobbled, and his feet in those hellish shoes that jabbed his soles with sharp points at every step, Bobby felt more helpless than ever.
He was handed off to another guard, one with a flushed piggish face. This one leered at him and shook the chain. Then he gave it a yank, sending a stab of pain to Bobby's most private part
