I have two.. one is a four point and one is a six I use the six on water shots and the four for pinpoint light shots.. Mine are both from Hoya

I love the warm tones.
I don't know if the star filter works on the sun - I remember having tried mine only once on the sun, but the sun was pretty far away and small so there was a simple star effect. The filter is great on smaller reflections though (depending how fine it is - I have a size 6 filter, but there are also size 4 and 8). You can achieve a wonderful sparkling effect on water surfaces etc.

ohhhhh ok......then thats where I saw it used...duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. So, whats good for a strong sun sinje? I better take that question down because it show my lack of knowledge

Vampirbiene In reply to 1001G [2012-09-09 16:24:53 +0000 UTC]

I used on a river surface
You can use it for the sun, it will probably give the sun a strong star look depending on your lens. I would try, but the lens that I usually use for my sundowns/landscapes is too large for the filter.

I adore filters. As soon I have some money left to spend I will get filters for my favourite lens.
I like the effects better that postediting.

I guess I need to research what filters do what and i dont edit much either, limited with picasa, and lazy

Vampirbiene In reply to 1001G [2012-09-10 04:51:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's a good first step. We have four filters from the good old days, but back than their effect was almost zero because the lens was not strong enough. Now, most of my lenses are two small.

I think photography is a sustainable hobby to spend money on.
Sure it is for fun, but it's something I wouldn't want to miss anymore.
I have had and still have hobbies that I care less about

oh I hear ya.....every now and then I dont feel like taking pics but the next day the fever is there again..lol. I have one more that I need to spend more time on. I make cards and I have orders to fill and Im just dragging my feet (one because my art room is very messy at the moment) so I have to straighten it first. But once I start i dont leave it till im done

Yeah, I was wondering if you were still doing your cards.
I wish I had an art room myself. At the moment, I keep moving my paintings from the kitchen to the living room, and then to the laundry room, etc.
Have you uploaded your cards? I'm sorry for not having checked your gallery that deeply.

It would have been nice to see some though. My Mom does a lot of papercraft too, but I have just no talent in that

I've realized that crafts aren't really recognized as work here.
My Mom makes a lot of papercrafts for fun. She gives cards, etc. away to friend and relatives, but still she makes so many that we thought we could sell them with our honey, so she wouldn't have to sit on them.
It's weird. Most people come and have a look. Think about it, go away ... and probably try to make their own cards.
I have so many cards for different occasions that I will probably never have to buy one single card again.

u r right people do not like to pay for all the work that goes into making a card. I had so many that my sister in law did the same thing for me and some sold. I sold 65 to the denver botanical gardens and they are not close so I didnt want to bother with that anymore either. What kind does your mom make?

Vampirbiene In reply to 1001G [2012-09-12 16:37:52 +0000 UTC]

Oh, my Mom does a lot of different kinds.
The new style is that decoupage and 3D stuff. She prefers old style cards with pictures of Hummel figures ([link] ) and pictures of flowers etc. like they were used in autograph books many years back (we called those books Poesiealbum).
Then she used to make stitching cards ([link] ). She quit this though because she has trouble with her hands and preparing the holes etc. became more and more difficult. This is a technique that I really liked when I was a kid. I may return to that eventually.
Actually she uses a lot of crafting techniques she learned when she was a kindergarten teacher. She projects them on different kinds of objects, not only cards, but also Easter baskets, etc. (like this e. g. [link] )
I was thinking about opening an account on Etsy or Dawanda. I know the work will never be paid, but although she uses magazines, journals, etc. and a lot of old paper we kept over the years, she still invests in glue, etc. Why not get a bit of this back? The problem with all those online accounts is that you have to advertise them which I don't have time for.

she does do all kinds......very interesting. I dabble in about all of it too but mostly I do dried flower cards. Not the ones you see where they use pieces of flowers to create a picture but I simply use dried flowers(whole) as my center for my cards and then frame them out with all kinds of material. I even use used drier sheets in all sorts of ways. Its fun and once I get started I stay in that room all day , Its a wonderful winter project but i like using natural light to work in and its not that bright in the winter as the summer. I think You can sell that and I make enough for my material. Its fun for me and I never planned on making money. I use old magazines too. I stamp like butterfly's on interesting patterns and then embellish with glitter and glue and then cut it out and use it to make a card......I use ribbons and such to finish it off. Hubby hates it when I use glitter because it doesnt all come off you and then I walk throughout the house spreading that stuff everywhere....

Dried flowers sound wonderful. I always wanted to try a mixed media painting using dried flowers. I even got flowers and put them in books. When I took them out again, I realized that I didn't pay enough attention before and they did looked tousled and folded. I will have to try again.
The glitter can be nasty. We have embellished our candles with loose glitter and glitter paint for a couple of years. I quit because these candles didn't sell better than the others and they don't look good after another year of storage. But the glitter is persistant I still have sparks everywhere despite all the cleaning.

You should try it! I have learned to use more expensive stock paper , the cheap stuff looks just like that, CHEAP...lol Yes, you have to be careful when u close the book on the flowers.... We have wood floors and that stuff loves to stay in the cracks and its so little and light that the vacuum doesn't seem to pick it up and then I have to get on my hands and knees with a dampcloth (putsfrau sp)

My son is probably the kid with the most expensive paper at school. I hate this cheep paper that doesn't survive one strong pencil stroke. I have tried so many different types of papier for drawing and painting over the years that I stick with the house brand of an online art shop. They sell bulk sketchpads so I don't have to buy ten pads with only ten sheets each in our discount market which is 20 miles away.
I remember the wood floor problem. We had that in our old apartment too. I could find the needles of the Christmas trees for five years in a row
Yeah, that the Putzfrau dream

I know the name of my paper but I still want a STORE,

I'm the same. I love to go to a real store and browse and see. Unfortunately there are not many stores to go to in a near environment. My real artist's shop is 120 kilometer away. I might go there next week. This is like a once-a-year ride. I'm glad they have their online shop, but still I like to have closer look and touch things.
All those small crafts shops don't survive long around here.

I never realized germans were that much into crafts. I never saw one when I was there browsing the streets. My aunt did all kinds of crafts and she was good and my father had a nack for decorating cakes and my grandfather was a actor in cologne so that is where my art comes from.

I think that crafts become more popular with the concept of "do-it-yourself". We have a lot of providers of crafts materials and tools. They offer the most recent techniques, and the more and more people try to do it themselves. My Mom has always been into crafts. She has been a kindergarten teacher for forty years, and she always crafted (basteln ) She is pretty traditional though. She tries the new stuff for cards, but most recently she said she would start too many new things anymore. My Dad was never into crafts. He could work with metal but he sucked at woodworking My Grandpa was a woodcarver which is something I would try again. He could draw really well and he would have probably even painted if he had had the time.

I would love to stay current with the new stuff but you could get poor buying and buying and buying. There always coming up with something new. I love woodworking and never tired and hubby doesnt want to bother with it. I told him to get a hobby but he is happy without one so who am I to argue. Time does limit a lot of people on what to do.......if you dont have any you dont do it. We have a Michaels here, a large craft store and you could really get into trouble if you wanted to. Hubby used to go with me and now he just lets me go by myself cause I like to look at everything and its boring for him like Lowes is to me, a home and garden store......

Tell me about it ... All the new stuff gets you broke in no time. All that special paper and techniques, and of course you need special glue for everything, etc.
Men are weird. My husband is really talented with wood, but don't think he'd ever create something. He does know all the technical details of photography, and he even has an eye for composition, but he never bothers to show anything because he is to lazy to do small edits or upload something. And of course he never goes shopping with me
