he is indeed suave in the middle of a castle at night, because that's what you do when you are the no. 1 culprit organizing the hottest kiiiiiinda-illegal highly-exclusive upper-class underground parties in the kingdom, because while you might be the eldest & heir to the throne, you do know how to get the in crowd pumped and trust me, that's way more fun than tedious history lessons about being a king.
His darker-haired companion, the far more studious and diligent youngest prince of the neighboring kingdom, serves as something of a token of peace between the kingdoms and also a vain hope of influencing his friend for the better. It hasn't worked so far. Mostly he ends up getting dragged along, begging uselessly for some sensibility, into the heir apparent's questionable schemes as the 'responsible friend' who hypothetically makes sure nothing too bad happens. (Although on occasion even his generally rule-abiding curiosity will get the better of him as to how many backflips his buddy can do before vomiting his champagne...)
Honestly, with the amount of dirt he has on the heir to the throne, he could probably find a way to rule the kingdom if he wanted. ...And his friend would probably let him, a fact that actually just kinda makes him more determined to defeat the challenge of making the prince shape up. He's a stubborn guy. Both of them are.

I was thinking something vaguely along those lines too xD definitely two princes; they grew up together and the other prince was always the well-behaved and responsible one while this joker was always playing out, out horseriding/playing in the snow hahaha

Maybe the younger prince is subconsciously trying to impress his father in his own way? Like, 'dad i might not be the oldest, but look at what a great ambassador i am and i even managed to reform the playboy prince of the other kingdom! notice meeeeee'
--Meanwhile said playboy prince does not give a crap and probably would be happy to shove somebody else's butt onto the throne if it meant he could keep being the freshest fresh prince ever. That might actually be his goal haha, to sit his friend on the throne someday instead of himself. //hmm
