I'm going to guess that your name is based on the "apostate" mages from the Dragon Age series. Though how you can be an apostate if you were never a member of a church (chantry/circle) to begin with is beyond me.

Apostasy doesn't have to be from a church, it can be from a religion/political belief or just an opinion different to your previously held beliefs.
