- Abandoned Space Pirate Base -

- North part of the maze -

- Present -

A large door opens and a squad of ODSTs check the corridor with weapons raised. All they see is a giant monster on all fours, and it's completely still in the middle of the hallway. As one, they slowly approach the creature, walking all around it. One of the Privates pokes a foreleg with his Battle Rifle. No response.

"Is it dead?" He asks. Everyone else shrugs and don't answer him.

The squad leader looks into the four eyes of the Metroid's right side... he raises his Assault Rifle and fires at the nearby leg. Not even a scratch. He turns back to the set of eyes and prepares to fire as something stirs inside it. Everyone hears growling of some kind... and the elite Marines take a few steps back from it.

All of a sudden the top of the head rips open and another head appears! This one is longer, with a much larger mouth, with rows of teeth lining each lip, and a few teeth on each corner of the mouth. The head stretches out from an extentable neck, and the rest of the new body exits the Omega skin. The back plating is much thicker than its previous form.

The new Metroid Queen ROARSSSS!!!!!!

The Orbidal Drop Shock Troopers scream and fire at the Metroid! Their bullets shatter on the Queen's armor. She growls, turns her head around to her right and sees the squad leader. She opens her mouth and the neck swiftly stretches out, and the mouth chomps on the Marine, her teeth impaling the man with ease. Then she quickly absorbs his bio-energy till he's a husk a few seconds later, then dust.

One of the Marines fires a rocket at the Queen's flank. The explosion doesn't damage her, but it does get her attention. She turns around and growls at the Marines, who quickly run through the door they came from. The Metroid pursues them...

Back in the destroyed lab...

The Chief kicks open a vent in the far end of the room. He activates his flashlight and looks through... all clear. He contacts Ash and Lucy.

"I've found a vent I can use to escape this lab. Until I confirm the location of where I'll end up, I'm ordering you to rendezvous with the teams in the north sectons of the facility. Understood?"

"Yes sir." Replies Ash. Lucy clicks her comm to acknowledge. They both leave.

John puts his Freezethrower in front of him and pushes it inside the vent. He holds onto the straps of the med pack and crouches down to look inside... he'll have to crawl through. He remembers when he did this on the Covenant flagship, Ascendant Justice. The Chief drops the Rocket Launcher, it'll get in the way.

Lowering his shield so he'll fit inside, he ties the medpack straps to his leg, then crawls into the vent. He reaches, grabs the Freezethrower, then moves forward.

"Good thing you're not claustrophobic." Cortana says to him.

The Morph Ball, meanwhile, drops out from a different vent and into the corridor the Omega ran down. Samus changes back then stares down the dark passageway. She starts walking while so many things race through her mind.

She was there... she watched Mother Brain destroy the infant Metroid. Then how could it be here, of all places? Shaking her head as she walks, the Pirates must have made a perfect clone of it.

'What does this mean?' she asks herself... she stops while trying to sort out her thoughts and feelings...

She runs through every mission she's been on that involved the Metroids, then she remembers destroying them on their home planet... and the tiny larva that hatched in front of her, and wouldn't attack her. Floating around and following her like a confused child. She remembers who created the Metroids...

She comes to a decision, based off all of her experiences. A fire burns fiercely in her eyes. She runs and activates her Speed Boost!!

The Queen enters another room, past the one she just entered. It's very dark and what appears to be a large pedestal is a few meters in front of her. She climbs on it and turns around so she's facing the door.

The Metroid forces something deep inside her to move. The dual tubes that make up her tail angle to the ground behind her. She pushes something up through one tube and gently pushes it down. She lifts up her tube to reveal a Metroid egg. She turns around and watches her first egg for a few moments... then begins developing another one.

After many turns through the ventilation, the Master Chief looks ahead and finaly sees an exit. He checks his motion tracker... nothing anywhere nearby. He crawls forward, reaches past his Freezethrower, then punches the cover out of his way!

Shoving the Freezethrower out of the vent, he climbs out, pulling the med pack with him. John unties it from his leg, then slings the straps over his right shoulder. He grabs the Freezethrower, lifts it up, then looks around... he sees a corridor heading east, so he walks in that direction.

A few minutes later...

The Chief and Samus arrive at the large door with the discarded Metroid skin in front of it. Samus slows down her run then stops. The Chief stops as well and they both stare at the Omega's cocoon. He asks her.

"Do you know what this is?"

She nods. "It's the former skin of a Metroid."

John looks around and sees an Assault Rifle lying on the floor beside a pile of dust and spots of red blood. He reaches, grabs the Assault Rifle and slings it. He turns around and says:

"There was a Marine here, and I'm willing to bet this one wasn't alone."

They enter through the large door and come into a large, open room. The only things filling this room are four pillars and a few weapons and grenades next to piles of dust.

Cortana asks Samus. "What exactly killed these Marines? You said something about the Metroid lifecycle earlier."

She answers her, "A Queen."

John quickly turns around and asks, "What?!"

Samus stares ahead of her, at the door on the other end of the room. "The Omega molted... it's now a Metroid Queen. This is proboably the second one in existence."

The Chief looks at the door... "Are you saying this Queen will lay eggs; and there'll be more Metroids?"

She nods. The Chief lifts up his Freezethrower. "We can't let that happen. These things might get to the surface, then nobody will be able to stop them from killing everyone."

Samus watches him start to walk... she clenches her fist. Lashing out with her Grapple Lasso, she pulls the Freezethrower out of the Chief's grip! The machine slides across the room, she aims at it and fires a Missile. It blows into pieces!

Then she aims her Arm Cannon at him; at the same time, the Chief grabs his Assault Rifle and aims at her. They stare at eachother, and he sees her eyes are burning with a determination he's never seen before.

"I won't let you destroy the Queen." she says...
