Miners are fucking anoying.... I was supposed to get a crossfire of RX 580 for around 200$ x2 at MSRP, but now, one is at least 500$, so my crossfire setup would cost 1000$ :c
I personaly have a Ryzen 5 1600X, temporaly CPU/for my second computer, got it for 125$ so a killer deal, while I wait for the second generation of Ryzen 7
altough, personal tips if you live in USA and want a GPU at MSRP, try local stores, no pieces of shit like Best Buy, but more Micro Center, if you buy only one GPU for gaming, it will be around the original price, also apps like Offer Up for used one, (don't take miner GPU tho, most GPU that has been used for mining are braindead) also check Ebay everyday, I found some great deal, or you can try to build a new rig with a Ryzen 3 2200G, they have AWSOME integrated graphics for their price for temporary graphics while GPU crisis calm down, might be the best strategy, hope this helps c:

Ryzen 5 is a nice CPU kinda holds up with the i7 7700K in rendering for much better price. I know how worse the prices for the GPU#s are. I live in germany and well.. forget local stores it's not even worth thinking about to look out for a GPU. Online shops? Well you get like 5 cards from different manufractors which barely have any performance difference but the price is over the top. Can't understand why Nvidia isn't doing anything against this giant abuse. I mean it's in general not good for their marketing either. I think I'll be still stuck with my GTX 275 until this giant mining crap is over. I don't wanna insult anyone but honestly those miners are such dumbasses.. wasting so much money for GPU's to get digital points crap which isn't even real money.. *facepalm*

That's a nice build honestly. Wish I got ram in time; stuck with 8 GB of cheap Patriot Vipers (they did get to 2800 MHz easily enough but timings are just bad). The NVMe SSD is a nice touch (I had to reuse my Samsung 840.. but it's still better than a spinning disk lol)
Was gonna get a better GPU, but for now my HD 7850 is good enough I guess.. Just can't justify the 2-3x retail prices that GPU's go for now (thanks miners and DRAM pricing....)

Thanks. Yea the memory and GPU prices just reached their worst case.. unbelievable how much it was going up in the past. You can be lucky to have a half decent gpu in your machine - nothing runs fine if you're stuck with DX 10.1 and only 896mb of VRAM. I just hope Nvidia will announce their new line of GPU's so i'm one of the first ppl whos gonna finally get a new one if the pricing goes well.

It really is crazy. Worse still, last year I passed up the chance to buy an RX 470 for $139.
Oh well I guess. . Hopefully all this madness dies down soon

Well honestly I wouldn't cry for an AMD card. Don't wanna hate or something but AMD cards are good for nothing.. just like the internal iGPU from intel in their CPU's xD

It would've been decent for the money at least. . And I like the new drivers. But honestly, in my opinion, GCN was good when it launched with the 7970. But.. it's been what 5 years at least? They really need a completely new architecture. They're having to push clock speeds wayyyy out of the architecture's efficiency range and it's just really showing its age. And we're definitely seeing the effects of Nvidia not having any real competition too, when you think of how long Maxwell/Pascal has been on the market

Yea thats true also the heat the older cards produce is way over the top. I remember having a radeon HD 4850 this thing was evil. I mean single slot design and TDP around 200 Watts. Temperatures in idle were insane I roughly remember around 65°C and it was loud like a jet engine under load. Good thing on this card was you could control the fan speed directly in the driver. Wish this was possible for my current GTX 275 wich easily hits over 92°C under load, burning my poor M.2 SSD which gets heated up by the GPU. Good thing tho that the DHE (direct heat exhaust design) blows the hot air out of the case acting like a case fan. Kinda noisy in idle but somehow pretty effective (if the card had lower TDP) Sadly new GPU's don't use this "blower style" heatsinks anymore.. I mean whats the point cooling the card with an normal fan which basically heats up the components around it since the air doesn't go out straight of the case. *facepalm* It's just a matter of time until the ATX standard will get replaced by something "more efficient". I mean Intels attempt for BTX in 2005 was a total failure in my eyes. Whats the point blowing hot air inside the case? Well only intel has crazy ideas like that lol.

A lot of BTX cases I've seen don't even give enough room for a dual slot card (PCIe slot at the top, with BTX it's useless). That HP-Compaq was the best case scenario for as far as BTX goes. Air flow is definitely fantastic compared to most OEM ATX systems like Acers, but that's about it. OEM systems generally use blower-style coolers anyways, so I don't know as the entire standard will be replaced or not. Best GPU cooling I've seen so far is on that 9800 GT Akimbo. To be fair it's not exactly a hot card, probably 105 Watts or something, and it's the later 55 nm revision. But the cooler itself was so overkill, I think 4 heatpipes and direct contact to memory and power components. Keep in mind, the good idle states weren't introduced until the GTX 200 series, but it idles under 40c, and the hottest I've seen it get was 53c just last night under full load. And the best part, it blows it right out the back of the case. It's quiet too. Fans never go above 50% and it's barely noticeable under load.
Also I didn't realize the 4850 had such a high TDP. I've only ever seen one personally and it was a passively cooled gigabyte card (absolutely monstrous card). Cards like that should never be single slot; though I think I know the design you're talking about (ATi reference with the little copper heatsink on the end?)
Before my 7850 I had a 5830. Fantastic card but eventually killed itself with heat (never could keep it under 90c under load). And to think even those Cypress cards were supposedly far more efficient than Fermi...
Oh yeah, have you tried using Afterburner to control the fan speed on that GTX 275? I use it to set a fan curve for my 7850 (default fan curve is stupid, fan just idles until it hits 80c then goes full force for about 15 seconds), and it works on the 9800 GT as well.
