This took waaay longer than expected. But as I always say to myself, better late than never. So here is Mulan! She is one of my faaavorite Disney characters of all time so it was such fun doing this piece. I added in as many details related to the movie as I could. A choice which kind of sent me on a roller coaster of "why did I do this to myself" and "I love these details, they make the piece". But seriously, can you guys see the references? I really, really hope so.Well, let me tell you a lil' bit about the piece. At first I wasn't going to give her a hat cause I had alrady done that before. But I wanted to incorporate the blossoms so badly, so the hat became a thing. Maybe I'll do a design with no hat someday, maybe not.
Hopefully no one is disappointed that Mushu isn't up and about yet in this piece. I don't know, I thought maybe Mulan could be the one to bring him to life with a spell, or something. He would make a great familiar.
As for the spell she's reading, I'm pretty sure she won't add Cri-Kee in there. Right? Right.I really, really want to talk about all the things that are in this picture, all the little easter eggs. But I don't think people want to read a novel length description so I'll just let you all figure what things from the movie are in the piece. Oh, one thing I will point out, since you can't really see it, is that on her wrist it says "Potion Dosage: Three cups in the morning, Three at night ". If you know the script as well as I do, you definitely get that reference.

This is exquisite! I'm not sure what I'm drawn to the most—all the details in the drawing, or the amazing colors!! Ahh, of course I adore the attention you put into your illustrations, it's always what makes the pieces, and I see all the movie references. The pendant, apple, hair-comb and flower... right down to the homage to her infamous bride scene! XD Honestly, I've gotten so used to you putting in those lil' Easter eggs of sorts that I'm constantly jumping into your artwork like a Where's Waldo?, studying the details you add. I'm still studying here! So brilliant and worth all the effort!!
Heehee, I personally love seeing Mushu still stuck as an incense holder. It's a part of his story and not one a lot of people would draw. Plus, I agree, it'd be cool to think the spell is for him, to cast herself a familiar. Lil' Cri-kee looks so cute, too; the expression on his face is rather like, "C'mon, you can do this! Good luck, good luck!"
These Witchsona series so far are really well thought-out. They're so obviously witchy, from the theme to the activities the Disney girls are doing, but it's seriously awesome how you put in so much of what makes them unique as Disney princesses and their movies. Like with Mulan, I love the circular Asian window mimicked by the mage's floating candles going around her. That composition is lovely, and the glow pulls all the colors together! You even kept the swirling calligraphy of the Chinese brush strokes in the smoke, as she's burning a hole in the table
