Remember the almost-tangible lightning dagger Aeren was using in this artwork? ([link] ) It's actually an advanced form. This is one of the basic gifts Aeren can make: The Red Shield.
Aeren, with the power to control the Chrystheum (which fuels the twin universes of Calorca and Terdis), has been given the power to control the speed and content of molecular content of both universes. This means she can manipulate molecules to conjure force fields, shields and protective auras. In its advanced form, she can control the speed of her own molecular content (and other individuals), allowing her to move faster and advance the speed of her movements. With this, she can eventually control time, and create lightning out of thin air (by speeding up her control to the fullest).
The Red Shield is Aeren's Pride and Joy. Eventually, she will learn how to throw lightning and create a storm, but that's not her baby -- the Red Shield is her own invention. The redder and solid it gets, the stronger and indestructible it is.
Aeren is the perfect tank, that's her role in a group which consists of a Hydrocontroller, a Pyromaniac, a Healer, a Paper Master (eventually an Earth Controller) and a Telepath.

Forcefields is the first stage. It usually is in a dome structure. At first it was whole tangible domes that cross through solid barriers. So if she was on a 2nd floor, the half of the dome would appear in the 1st floor. She can control who can enter the area of effect, and it cannot be intercepted by any force -- bullets, lasers, magic, etc. A only possible way to infiltrate the dome is through a lightning initiated through the Chrystheum.
She manages to control the molecular structure of the Forcefield dome and makes specific items for protection. She then controls the structure to highlight specific areas and molds them into reasonable forms - thus the Red Shield. As a shield, its awesome when it comes to hand to hand combat. She can summon it at will, and in a flash when she gets used to it.
The speed capability is special. If you're familiar with the shunpo technique in Bleach, its similar to that. Aeren can move faster than the usual warrior, and she disappears in sight, and reappears again. She manages to overtake everyone in this manner. And since Aeren is a fast runner, it even amplifies this power. She can run through stretches of miles in seconds.
And eventually Aeren can control time. Freeze time, speed it up or slow it down. She does travel back through time, but that's one big plot secret and it costs her so much just to do it. Energy and consequences. But she uses this to spy on people and escape circumstances.
So far those are her abilities.

Perfect traits for an ideal heroine.
In my Doctor Who crossover, Aeren loves using the Red Shield. Well, with her loss of memory, she goes back to Stage 1 - which are just Forcefields, but when she rediscovers the Red Shield... its just awesome. Imagine a character like Signora Calvierri (Vampires of Venice), attempting to throw acid in the Doctor's face, and she suddenly holds up the Red Shield in front of her, the acid sliding off the see-through shield.
I just love it how she manages to manipulate it.
