Description
ADHD, or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by a consistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development.
There are three presentations of ADHD:
Predominantly Inattentive Presentation: Difficulties in maintaining focus, following detailed instructions, and organizing tasks and activities.Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Presentation: Manifests as excessive fidgeting, talking, and restlessness. Individuals may have difficulty waiting their turn and frequently interrupt others.Combined Presentation: Symptoms of both inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity are equally present.ADHD symptoms can appear as early as between the ages of 3 and 6 and can continue through adolescence and adulthood. Treatments include medication, psychotherapy, education or training, or a combination of treatments.
