Colored Pencils
So, I finished this nearly a month ago, but it's been sitting on my camera waiting to be crossloaded. I have an idea for a drawing, complicated and in depth along the lines of some of the Luthien drawings I've done avogel57.deviantart.com/art/Lu… featuring Krys, but given a lot of the content, I think that very vibrant colors would be appropriate. Only, I don't know if I can pull off very vibrant colors. I suck at painting, and it's been years since I've worked in colored pencils. However, I have a set of nice Prismacolors that have been sitting on my shelf, unopened, since I won their prize back in 2009. So, I decided to do a small-scale test drawing, to see how it'd turn out.
What do you think? I like the flesh tones and the actual colors, but I also feel like despite the burnishing, it still looks sort of washed out. Like, with paint, you see the color of the paint and nothing else; this feels more like you see the color of the pencils on top of the white of the paper, not just the color of the pencils. It's nice, but I'm not sold. Additionally, I'm not seeing the fine details and the subtle blending that go with the pure graphite. I don't know, I like it, but I don't think it really lives up to the image I have in my mind, and for a much larger piece.....eh. Care to weigh in and offer an opinion? (Yes, I know it's more of a Drivers License image--I'm only looking to work out the color, not real worried about the form/layout)
