Description Lockheed Martin Sabre Warrior UCAV

This is Lockheed Martin 's Sabre Warrior , a next-generation plane that looks like something Batman and Darth Vader would fight over for. Instead, some good-turned-evil computer will get a fleet, as part of a plan to destroy us all. It's impressive. The Sabre Warrior drone is 46 feet long, with a 36-foot wingspan, capable of taking off with 30,000 pounds of load using a 22,000-pound trust...

This reminds me of a UCAV design made up by AVPRO for the UK's FOAS concept. It looks so cool!

sadly, the best planes are drones
I.O.W.'s, the best planes are flown playing a video game with no restart, on the hardest difficulty

Ooh, that looks sick!

30,000 pounds of load using a 22,000-pound trustYep, that's quite a lot of trust to put into an airplane, wouldn't you say?

I quite like the Sabre Warrior. The double-nose design reminds me of designs I've done in the past.

Why the hell would anyone NEED that?! What, we can't destroy the Taliban well enough with UGVs and Predator Dones?
Looks cool though...

there's no such thing as Overkill, there's only "Open Fire", and "I need to reload"

you make something of a point but I still think this is overkill. We're dealing with extremists with AK-47s and RPGs and we feel the need to use giant cruise missiles? That's just off.

Tank50us In reply to TheElevatedDeviant [2011-11-12 16:28:13 +0000 UTC]

it's because for thousands of years these extremists with AKs only listen when you have more power. Sure, a LGB has gotten the occasional extremist group to shut up, but not these people. As Theodore Roosevelt once said "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far." (Granted, it's an African proverb, but it's still the drives the point.) It's much easier to negotiate with these people when you can point to a Fleet and a force of Marines when they say "You and what Army". And, since we're the best military force at this time, it pays to maintain that dominance. And as I'm sure you've noticed, China and Russian recently unveiled their Stealth Fighters, which they will market out, so it's best for both us, our allies, and our interests to stay one step ahead.

All true... except one crucial error. I don't know where everyone is getting this bull about the PLAF having stealth technology; it's simply not true. Russia does indeed have the Stealthy SU-50 and SU-55, asserting that we are not alone in possesing Generation Five technology. Also, Russia does not intend to market out their stealth fighters, as there are political restraints preventing any country from doing so. It should be noted that the US is also bound by these constraints, meaning that IAF F-22 Raptors is just Israel's fantasy. So Russia can't market it's SU-50s and SU-55s, and even if they wanted to, they couldn't; China couldn't even if they wanted to either, furthermore, they don't have the Stealth technology to export anyway. And as for these extremists, you make a good point but as I point out to most of my peers, negotiation has failed. With the death of Osama Bin Laden, their hatred of us has been sealed forever. But to be honest, we wouldn't need stealthy UCAVs for the fact that we're deploying them in no situation where they could possibly be shot down. If we sent them in over Bosnia or maybe Ukraine for some reason, then I would condone the addition of stealthy UCAVs and maybe even endorse it. And also, as you said we are the most powerful military force in the world at the moment and Russia or China will never get ahead of us. It's a simple reality that we have WAY more false reason to build such weapons than they do, so we'll always be three steps ahead of them rather than just one. Needless to say, the "Homefront Scenario" is just a capitalist fear trigger and will never happen; a fantasy if you will.

Other than the F-35 being some obvious inspiration, it reminds me also of a UCAV fighter from AVPRO's book, "Future Warplanes".
