Description
A scene from my fantasy story Brínnland, which is based upon a dream I once had.

Two of the characters directly come from this dream: the red-haired lady is a witch, and the black-haired lad with the javelin is a hunter from a northern tribe. The former had to flee her homeland when witchcraft became prohibited, and the latter was a rescued boy, later made an outcast by his adoptive tribe because he was believed to be a demon. When they met, these two came to bond over the ostracism they were victims of, and eventually set on a quest together to seek freedom and purpose. During their vagrancy, the witch would regularly perform rituals, like depicted above - both to honor the Goddess along with the ancient Nature spirits, and to ask these transcending beings for small favors in order to help them in their quest.

The artwork introduces two new characters. Although they don't have the same oneiric origin, I felt that adding them to the party brought a bit of dynamism as well as various subplots:
The dark-haired lady on the left was training to become a guard, when her guards captain was killed by the same people who forced witches into exile. She swore to avenge her beloved master's death, and joined the witch and hunter's cause when she crossed their path and realized they all shared a common foe. She's a skilled archer.
The leather-clad dude is a mercenary who embraced a life of petty theft and debauchery, seemingly so content with it that no one could figure out why he chose to join the others in the first place. When asked, he claims his heart won't find peace lest the archer consent to reciprocate his affection (to the lady's great displeasure), but he seems to have a hidden agenda...

Almost none of them have names yet. The hunter's called Svenn, from Old Norse sveinn, which simply means "boy": indeed, no one in his tribe bothered to give him a proper name when they took him in.
