Description
"Amulet fashioned from the nine lives of my dead cat" (2014) is another distortion of a digital photograph I took of my cat's x-ray the day I unexpectedly learned that my little guy's body was riddled with cancer. The original image became a piece called "The cruel and worthless machinery of life (lateral view)."

I was completely unaware that there was anything wrong with my sweet Mojo, and having euthanized my dog of thirteen years just four months earlier sent me headlong into a state of depression over the impending mortality of my cat. The pain of knowing what was coming devastated me and I stopped sleeping and wouldn't leave my home.

Somewhere in the blur of the sleepless days and nights, I thought how cool it would be if my cat could be transformed into something that would spare my heart the suffering it undergoes when dealing with the loss of an animal companion. And this is how my dead cat became an imaginary, protective amulet.
