I really appreciate the stylized and expressive line & shape you arrive at in these animal illustrations. I have been getting more and more into animal characters. But somehow I feel there is a gap between my initial studies and a really simplified version of them which I can never cross. Would you mind sharing a bit of your process? What is the thinking behind it? Do you use basic shapes and cut away? Do you look at other master's work? I am hoping for some insight

I'm currently going through your entire gallery and I can't get over great your sense of design is. I love love love the way you simplify shapes and bring out the design qualities in animals but still leave them super-recognizable. Also loving the tangents in this one, particularly the nose with the fur ruff around the neck, it flattens the image nicely. And the colour. And the smug expression. And everything. Askqshdivvnscjnvn. Gah. Too awesome!

I love how you've stylized everything... the thick legs leading down to tiny feet, the small eyes, and the thick mane are so hard to pull off, but you've managed it beautifully. Thank you so much for sharing this!
