Is the best thing I have ever drawn.

Seriously, you guys. I'm in shock right now. It took me four hours TOTAL and I just... I don't know how.

I should probably explain, for those not in the loop, that Mace is a character in my upcoming webcomic. This is going to be the beginning chapter page, and I will add text or something, and upload that at a later time.

9.5" x 12", sketched with pencil and then finished in your everyday ballpoint pen. (Not even a brand name, just one of those you pick up from somewhere.)

Storytime... A long time ago (read: about 5 years), in high school, I had a wonderful art teacher. One of those that you groaned about and dreaded, but who, with every torturous project and critique, made you a better artist. We did a drawing in ballpoint pen in that class-- a large drawing. My drawing was sort of shit, but I never forgot it, and never forgot how to use pen like this.

Amazing! The shading technique is pretty much flawless. Detail is awesome, and you did a good job of making it realistic looking but still keep it in your style - hope that made sense. Awesome drawing!

Wow. I think you did very well with the face. I love the eyes, the hands and the mouth. Somehow the hair destracts me :/ I cannot tell why, sorry. still it is a fav because everything else is so great!

Thank you, for the comment and the fave! the hair might be distracting because the highlights are the same shade as the face/hands...?? I'm not really sure :333 oh well!

Y'know, occasionally I browse my watchers list and absentmindedly, 'click, click, click' to see what ppl have been up to. When I got to your piece, I was like "wtf?, whoa!, who's this??!" The hands are very expressive and a bit Schiele-sk. I really like that you did not simply emulate the photo-ref.

You need to keep this type of effort up!

Thank you! I knew I was going to have this be this guy and not me, so my photo reference was just that. And mostly for the sake of the hands. I love hands. A ridiculous amount. They're the main reason I'm so happy with this.

I will most certainly try to keep the effort up It's not so much about effort as it is inspiration and time. The comic I put out once a week keeps me busy, and I feel like I push myself a fair amount with that, in multiple ways. At least I'm producing something on a regular basis. Come Winter Break I'll have a bit more time to invest in stuff like this.

A true highlight of your Gallery, this is simply excellent pen work. The hands are especially expressive and remarkably well rendered, telling the story as much as the expression in the eyes....SUPERB!!!

I love the hands. They're beautiful. The rest of the drawing is also very good, but I'm drawn to the hands. They're so dynamic. I'm sure Mr. Counts would be proud...he might still grab a piece of tracing paper and start marking things no one else can see until he does, but I'm sure he'd be proud too.

8D thank you! The hands are one of my favorite parts, as well, I'm just still in shock that I even drew them that well. Best hands I've ever done, for sure.

I think I know where Mr. Counts might have some critiques, just stuff I noticed as I was drawing, but... we'll keep those between us, for now, lol.

That is really good. The hatching is excellent and is used so consistently throughout the image. It really presents a very solid composition that feels like it has weight and form.

YES YOU HAVE SAID EVERYTHING I PAID ATTENTION TO. That mouth was so hard. I just stared at mine for a while going 'huh-- it's not turned down but it doesn't look like I'm smiling WHY IS THIS.' I love the emotion, here-- and I gotta be honest, that was all Mace. Every inch.

Yes. Which is probably partly why I love it so much-- but also because even people, like my mother, who don't know the character, can get essentially the same thing out of it.
