I guess this is more technically Morro Strand State Beach, looking down on Morro Rock down there. Not to be confused with Moro Rock in Sequoia National Park. Morro rock is allegedly a volcanic plug….which raises some serious questions I have seeing as practically the only thing near the out of the way city Morro Bay is California’s only PG&E run bomb, the Diabolo Canyon Nuclear Plant. I’m guessing the spelling difference doesn’t matter, in Spanish, ‘Morro’ means ‘nose’. It was named by the Franciscan missionary Juan Crespi who noted in his journal (my translation) , ‘saw a great honking bill sticking out of the ocean the other day’. Anyways you can go camping on the beach, which sounds like so much fun. It’s absolutely gorgeous around there.
