Hello ! I'm a french cosplayer, and I'd like to know if I could use your sword design for my cosplay in Rainbow dash armor ?
I already draw my outfit and my armor part. I started making the sword according to your drawing.
However I would still like to have your permission to take her with me at convention or photo shoot, because I like your sword enormously, but as you are the artist who imagined it I feel that you have your word to say!
You can answer me by mail if you want: mercier.julie67@gmail.com
Thank you and have a nice day !

I love this!
(If we were judging weight by size, and functionality by weight and overall structure, I think Rarity's sword would be the only functional one. However, since this may not be the case, I won't jump to conclusions.)

You put a lot of thought into these. Even if the names weren't there... I can definitely tell what swords belong to whom! I can actually picture the Mane Six wielding these!

I'm glad I'm not the only person doing MLP-themed sword designs based on the ponies' Cutie Marks, although I admittedly have never thought about doing any for the Mane Six.
I also took a bit of a different approach to you. I've done my share of reading on real-life sword designs, so I stuck closer to real weapons and combined the pony's Cutie Mark with elements of historical swords to create a MLP-themed design that would arguably still work if made into a metal weapon.
(Part of the reason for this is because I know shops overseas that can build foam-latex LARP weapons (i.e. high-tech boffer swords that look real), and I wanted to make sure that if the opportunity ever arose, anything I designed could be made into a boffer sword prop that a cosplayer could use in real life.)
However, if I were asked to judge from a strictly MLP viewpoint - as in "would this thing look good if you put it into a MLP episode," you definitely have the better approach. Your designs could be tossed into the show without looking out of place because they fit right in with the cartoony art style. Mine wouldn't, because they're *too* realistic.
I did ones for Starlight Glimmer and Sunset Shimmer, who are my 3rd and 2nd favorite ponies, so far.
Equalizer (Starlight Glimmer): fav.me/d9y8aly
Sunfire (Sunset Shimmer): fav.me/d9yqew3
But yeah - I really like what you did with the Mane Six. Your design really fits well with the way things look in the show, and they wouldn't look out of place in MLP fanart or fan animation. Well done.

No problem. I'm pleasantly surprised that you actually did manage to find time to reply.
I definitely agree with you. An approach based on real-life weapons works out well as a potential design for a cosplay prop, especially for cosplayers doing "humanized" interpretations of pony characters. But it won't work at all if you're trying to create an item that could fit in the TV show because of the series' cartoony, exaggerated art style. If you want to create a weapon that looks like it belongs in MLP, then your way is the way to go - and that's exactly what you did.
I think we could put any of the swords you designed into a MLP episode and it wouldn't look out of place, which is probably one of the highest achievements you can aspire to as a fan artist doing original designs.
And thank you! I have to admit, I was apprehensive at first when I was designing Sunset Shimmer's Sunfire broadsword. She is my second favorite pony, so I really wanted to do her justice, and the color pattern of her Cutie Mark seemed to demand a two-tone split-color hilt, but that was something I've never seen before. I was surprised that it came out as good-looking as it did. Also, I totally didn't have this in mind when I designed the weapon, but after the fact, I realized that it could actually work really well with Sunset's Daydream Shimmer form.
I don't know if it will ever happen, but I did want to make sure that if the opportunity ever arose, my designs could be built as working foam-latex LARP weapon props. That's why I had to work very hard not to "over-design" them (which meant sticking very close to buildable real-life hilt and blade designs and, of course, including sheaths to go along with the swords. I've had to run around conventions lugging large props in my hands before, and that's not fun. >_<

I love how Applejack has a BFS and then Rarity's sword is an elegant rapier. You really put a lot of thought into these! And Rainbow's sword looks awesome.

Question here: Why is it that Applejack gets the Zanbatō?
Makes no sense since she's not really considered much of a powerhouse.
And Twilight, Ow? that pointy pommel would do more damage to the wielder than the rest of the sword, and getting thinner at the hilt holds no combat prowess whatsoever as it makes her more-likely to accidentally lose her grip on the sword and have it careen off into someones' chest cavity

Sweet...
So, Twi and Rainbow are swords.
Rarity a foil (or floret) dunno which one it's the correct. Classy.
AJ a heavy sword.
And Pinkie and Fluttershy are daggers. BTW it's hard to think on Fluttershy figthing with a dagger specially being so shy, unless she uses it to protec herself some sort of way.
Also Shy's dagger and Rarity's foil are my faves
