Harry Turtledove wrote an alternate WWII series were the German Empire survived. This would have been some paint job for a fighter plane had the Red Baron lived in this era. It looks fantastic, especially on the Spitfire!

Here's one that's been captured and re-engineered with a DB 601 engine. [link]

And here's one flown in it's raw state, just a black cross daubed over the RAF roundels. [link]

Not all that 'what if'. There were Spitfires captured and used to fly against allied bombers and escorts. The RAF camoflage was retained and the luftwaffe markings were downplayed but not hidden (for fear of falling foul of Geneva). At a reasonable distance only the shape was recognisable.

or better yet, german spies stole the designs, i imagine that its the only way they have a spitfire.

just saw a special on the hunt for the bizmarck, man it was awesome, and when the HMS Hood went down it was like, well, it was decent animation so it it felt real enough.

of course they didnt need the spitfire thayt had an ME-109!

Americans: P-51 Mustang
Nazi Germany: ME-109
Japan: Misubishi Zero
British: supermarine spitfire

and i love the irony of the mighty bizmarck being bought down by an antiquoted biplane with a torpedo!

But when one of your top aces asks Mr. Goering for a squadron Spitfires in order to win the Battle of Britain... you gotta wonder just how special the 109 was

really? someone would ask Britian to use planes against britain, would the british company have sold it them?

LittleFoxStudio In reply to carlosRIV232 [2011-05-29 00:14:53 +0000 UTC]

Goering was asking what his officers needed and Adolf Galland asks him for a squadron of Spitfires. Which just sorta pissed off the fat guy.

that was flipping stupid, you brit's know your own stuff, if they used that you'd have them matched, Goering was smart to try and keep it all German. from a tactical stand-point.

i heard they used the ME-109 to ram american bombers, which with that rotot did incredible damage, this was later when they were desperate to defende Germany.

Stupid idea #1= Maginot Line!

It's not they have tanks, right!

Skorpychan In reply to carlosRIV232 [2013-11-16 14:15:22 +0000 UTC]

The ramming attacks were an experiment, which was written off as too costly in aircraft and pilots for the number of bombers taken down.

Otherwise, the main issue with the -109 was the lack of fuel capacity to let it dogfight in the british skies, and that it was an older design by the time of the Battle of Britain. The Spitfire and Hurricane were right up to date, fighting over friendly territory with a full fuel load, and could be patched up swiftly, with downed pilots shuttled back to base ASAP.
Anything germany lost over england was lost. Pilots and aircraft, and we had the Royal Navy to fish pilots out of the Channel.

yeah Brit's sea power was good, carriers mixed with light and heavy cruisers made for speed, Hitler overreached attacking the UK and just how did ever hope to hold unto territory in a modern age when words gets out about the secret killings, someone knew, that's all I am saying. You don't kill that many without people noticing and in less then a decade I bet it would have fallen apart had Germany tried to consolidate and create Germania.

Skorpychan In reply to carlosRIV232 [2013-11-17 09:44:47 +0000 UTC]

He took the territory quick enough. I think he'd hoped that quick-responding reserves, air power, and fortifications built with slave labour would have held back any invasion or uprising.

If he hadn't overreached and attacked the UK or Russia, he may well have kept it for over a decade. Probably not as long as two, but if he'd concentrated on building up the military instead of having to scrabble to replace losses through bombing, he would have made a better shot at it.
But with the US entering the war due to Japanese actions, it was bound to have ended badly for him anyway. It would have just been a harder fight, what with half the luftwaffe NOT being destroyed over britain.

If he HAD managed to destroy the RAF and  the Royal Navy and get his troops across the channel through weather that really objects to invading forces, he'd have been fighting for every inch of land, harried by the Home Guard and anyone with a gun or a rock to throw, and by the remains of the RAF.
You just don't get a column of tanks into a village when you need to have infantry clear every last bush, house, and hole in the ground for someone with a molotov.
