Since I started photography, I've always aimed to create creatures that can't exist outside my head. They are my monsters, my joys, my fears and worries. When I take a self-prortait, I never see myself as the model. I'm just a painter of a dream, of an idea.
When I put on my make-up, I am no longer Cristina, but
"the prisoner." ( ) a "fire dancer." ( ) or a "maniac."
People escape reality by reading, painting, or listening to music. I do it by taking self-portraits.

I find this piece of art to be very beautiful and enlightening. What I take from this is a divide in emotions, thoughts, and feelings. Its shows how we contain both the "normal" and the unusual. I feel like this is not only an expression from the artist, but also a reminder of how I view myself. Being split down ths middle shows equal parts of an opposing drive, the raw energy of two mismatched mentalities contained in one brain. There is fear and bravery, honesty and manipulation, vanity and self loathing,humility and narcissism, all batteling for control. Maybe the reason why I do so adore this picture is for the fact that many of my previous works of art are so chillingly similar, almost identical. With our humanity comes choice. We can choose to conform to societies idea of how we should think, look and behave. Or we can rebel, we can stand tall and show our insanity which is uniquely us. After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This work of art is the artists expression. Perhaps the meaning of this piece is all together entirely different from how I perceive it. But all art is open for interpretation. The meanings can even change day to day. I believe this picture holds something unique and special for all of us.

Wow! Have you read The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer? This reminds me of the Lunar Queen Levana, what she really looks like VS what she makes herself look like.

You are extremely inspirational. I love all of your photos, they have something I've NEVER seen in anyone else's photos. You really open my eyes and mind, to new perspectives and ideas. Brilliant.

Very strong piece of work. I like the obvious connection to societal pressures into reality. However, I really do like the white eyes, which sort of represent blindness to me. It seems to symbolize the blindness to how society inpacts one. I like the contrast between the makeup and the unmasked face. It seems to represent the rebellious self that seems to blend into the self created by societal pressures.

Striking and disconcerting. Even if I ignore the contact lens, the right half is a bit frightening; the left half looks like someone I'd want to marry. (The freckles are so adorable.)

this is a first - fav'd it not because the image captures me but the commentary you added to it.
it strikes me that great models are always trying to do this - create a presence that isn't real with or for the photographer. I think the fact you are on both sides of this equation is part of the reason your work is so good........
