Description ________

Leo held up his hand to stop Missfa midword. "I don't want to know." The words came out entirely too calmly for the strength of reaction they caused in his gut. The vicious twisting and sickening sinking sensation.

Missfa, for once, seemed speechless. "...What?"

"I don't want to know about the trial. I don't want to know anything about it. Most of all, I don't want to know anything about /him\. I don't even want to know Kaizar King's middle name. Do you understand?" Missfa shook her head wordlessly. "I don't hate people-- I don't hate /persons\. My general disdain is for the human race as a whole, but I don't hate my clients individually. I don't hate the ones that hurt me. I don't even hate the enforcers. I can't. The reason I hate them all is the same reason I can't hate them each: I know too much." Rein nodded emphatically even as Ferroc grimaced and Damios scowled. Tenebrae shifted uncomfortably. "We see too much of our clients, who they are, what their hopes are, what their dreams are. As callous as the enforcers could be, they weren't often cruel, and the ones that were couldn't be that all the time.

"Humans are too many things to be just one thing. We saw the worst of them without fail, but we can't not-see the good parts that show themselves. Do you get it now? I don't want to know about the Overlord. I want him to remain that in my mind until the day I die. I don't want to know his wife, or his sister, or his father who's weazened and so proud. I don't care about his hopes and I've been the subject of too many of his dreams.

"He /hurt\ me. And I would like, for just once in my life, to be able to hate someone who hurt me unopposed." He didn't want to risk empathizing even a little.

Some people, he knew, felt better when those seemingly above them with all the power were brought down to their level. 'See? Not a monster, just a man. No need for fear.' That method wasn't for him, or the others, he suspected. He didn't want to see a man, he didn't want to give him that humanity.

/The nice thing about monsters,\ Leo mused, /is that no one gets upset when they're vanquished.\
