Description the ride from willoughby to cahuenga ... the willoughby to almost anywhere as that's my "hollywood freeway" ...

those who don't know take fountain.

but ... i see this intersection ...

suffice it to say ... a lot.

sufice it to say i see this intersection any time of the day or night or morning ... like this at 03.00.

i see the dude washing his new maxima.

i see the crackheads buying their crack to keep their status as fucking crackheads.

i see the hispanic couple walking their babies in strollers.

i see cops busting crackheads.

i see the tranny-hookers (this area is known for that almost like an appelation controlee) ...

i see the tranny-hookers being dropped off by your uncle herb or your supposedly straight neighbor...

see ... this is the the kind of image i see ...

i make it for me.

because when i'm old (er) ... i'll look back and smile ...

because i saw all this stuff ...

and will remember cahuenga and all the people doing the cahuenga walk.

which is a different cahuenga walk than the one a few blocks up near hollywood boulevard...

which is an entirely different walk indeed ...

and undoubtedly ... i'll want to remember that walk as well...

because that's what i do.

i see.

i make a photo.

I love love love how you tell the story of every photo you take. I really dislike when photographers leave the description blank; it's so boring and, to me, too impersonal. I know for a fact that every photo is personal in some way, to SOMEONE. So thank you for that. For bringing us all into your world.

Actually I can't help but feel like it's my world, too; I grew up in L.A. Well, the Valley to be exact. So I find myself relating to you in that way. Thank you for being awesome and talented!

Very cool night shot, it has a very gritty โ€œfeelโ€ to it.

love the composition, especially the placement of the man, a focal point we are drawn to by the line of street lights, pulling us right into the shot. Stylish!

awesome pic! I love the street lights that go way back. And I love that the sign is there like a label, a toe tag? only cahuenga is very alive. so more like a name tag.

I just moved to LA so I get a kick out of recognizing where your photos are taken! such a newb I know.

I don't see the things you are talking about, but i agree with the intentions to remember things just the way they were.

chris!
the photo is not happening.
it's not bad, but something is missing.
i've been looking at it for a few days.
i'm going with the feeling.
more "no" than "yess".
sorry.

it took me a few days, but i figured it out.
it is a picture for a square: 6x6.
you always talk about the beauty of leica - here is a picture for TL Rolleiflex. 2,8, of course.
it should be square.

save them out at 12 max...!

between how i save it, how the lab scans and some other stuff ... that's as good as it's going to get on the web ...

i save prints differently, though.

i have this turn around a corner like that.

through 14 years i've made this turn at least twice a day/night.

and it is how i track the people in my neighborhood.

funny how the boy walking his dog is a man now. same dog.

the twins' older sister jogs with a baby stroller instead of her cheer squad.

the hot mom with the cool kids is a now grandmother pulling a wagon.

there was this inspiring grandfather who walked religiously daily without fail. and one day, he just wasn't there anymore. or the next. i actually miss waving and smiling with him, so i can only imagine how his family must feel the void. ah i am getting morbid now, sorry.

this tree i used to laugh about, this scraggly thing that must have been a post-season clearance. it is huge now. and beautiful beyond words. i thought how at least it waves at me everytime i make this turn. its not quite dead yet.

Your photos themselves are quite amazing, but your descriptions make them brilliant, it's always interesting to read them.

I really like this shot, as it reminds me of a movie poster, but I really loved your description. It's what all photographers do in general. What we see is what we want to remember, what we see, we take a picture. Even if we forgot everything, or everyone forgets about us, the photos will still be there; for everyone to remember, and to enjoy.

the story behind this street ... and the things you've seen ... which aren't in the photo ... make this simple shot a very interesting one!

"cahuenga walk" ...

you should have titled this "the c-walk"

or on second thought, maybe not
