A visual story and ballad by Gordon Napier
sequil to the series 'Expectant'.

----

Maulric of Dis, the backguard knight, rides through the forests of lower Aratan, inflated with the pride of the strong, and on his way to claim the prizes of a victor. His captive is the young knight Sikandor, only son of Earl Kaidard, who is the lord of these parts.

The unfortunate Sikandor is bound across his saddle beside his captor, almost as dead as he is alive. Maulric, ere he releases his trophy to Kaidard, will claim the wretched youth's inheritance for his own, his castle and lands. The rogue blackguard has also heard of the beauty of the lady Belarith, younger sister of Sikandor. She too Kaidard will have to surrender if he wishes his son to live...

---

Maulric the ghastly Blackguard
a man of bitter sin
allied with ranks of demons
and victory did win
And of the knight Sikandor
a captive did he make
and now with that poor youth in chains
he rode, his lands to take.

Through wooded Lower Aratan
Maulric the Black did ride
to the castle he would conquer
and the maid he'd make his bride.
And his bound and beaten captive
was stricken with despair,
for naught could he do to keep
the Blackguard from his sister fair.

I like the guys pose.

I can imagine him saying to the poor bloke in the background.

-"You know what day it is? It is, I am amazing day! Did you notice that i am amazing today?"
And the page is like.
-"Yes sire, like every day...."

-"HAha! I knew i had missed something, i haven't told ser Joras this yet!"

-"Sire, ser Joras is dead, he's right behind...."

-"STRIKE A POSE!!!"

Tasteful in both art and story. Even, heaven forbid, realistic. Which is something you don't come across too often in D&D.

I was wondering if you could help me learn Latin on occasion. I have just started learning it using the Rossetta Stone Language Learning system. But I have no one to talk to, exept my priest, and he is too busy. Could I occasionaly send letters for you to profread as my grammer develops? If thats not to much trouble...

Indulgeam tibi, sed tiro totus sum, et latinum meum stultus et malus est. Maior detrimentum quam auxilium sim.

What can I say? As a purveyor and collector of villains, I LIKE this guy! He has definite style, and he's going places. Very nice piece here.

I'm assuming that this is somehow connected to the "Expectant" series, although you seem to be approaching the story-telling a bit differently. Regardless, I like it.

Unfortunatly we dont see Sikander in this picture. Or did i miss something

and the poor Lady Belarith, although we dont see yet whats behind that bulky armour.

He's there, slumped over his horse on the other side. Should have made him clearer, clearly.

Mauric really has a commanding presence in the composition. Did he elbow everyone out of the way, I wonder?

Do you mind a small critique? Or would you prefer not to hear one? Either way it's a really good picture, and you are very, very good at drawing armor.

Kay!

Well, for a warhorse the steed Maulric is riding has a much smaller chest than he should. He has an impressive head and neck, he just needs the chest and legs to match it.

I'll give you an example using Friesians since they were the choice steed of Crusaders, and are, in my humble opinion, very powerful and beautiful horses.

I tried to find some of them just walking, like in your picture, but apparently no one likes to photograph a horse walking.

Another good warhorse to use as reference is the Andalusian, which comes in more colors than the Friesian, but is just as powerful. Black Andalusians are often mistaken for Friesians, but there are subtle differences in the face, and Andalusians don't have feathering around their feet if they're purebred.

Hope that helps, and that you don't feel like you've been rambled at...

No problem! If we had lived close to each other, I would've just lent you my huge horse books for reference, instead of trying to find something decent on the internet.
