Description So I've had turtles on the brain for awhile now and my brain has been itching to draw them. I took aspects that I thought worked well from past incarnations, particularly from the 2012 Nick show (which is awesome), Mateus Santolouco's designs for the IDW comics (also amazing), as well as some aspects from the designs used in the new Paramount TMNT film.

For Leonardo I thought it was important to make him look controlled, intense, and professional. He is the kind of guy who takes his work very seriously. I loved his armor in the new movie, especially the shoulder pads and the NYC button and I incorporated it into this design with the tactical black as well as some ninja throwing knives right on his sword-strap.

Raph is my personal favorite and I wanted to get him across as the one who rushes into battle and lets his strength do the talking. I really liked what they did with his design in the new movie and I incorporated the full headband/do-rag thing cause I thought it was cool and set him apart. Other than that I figured he would be very simplistic with any armor, choosing to just bandage up. I also really liked the "kami" turtle brand or raised tat that Raphael had in the movie and I thought it was a nice touch that spoke to his character so I added that as well.

Donatello was done so well in the new Nick cartoon that I had to give a strong nod to his design. The gap in the teeth and overall look is inspired by the current TV Donnie. However, I really liked the tech on Donnie in the new movie, especially the Nintendo Power Glove so I incorporated that as well. I figured he would have upgraded it to interface with security systems and remote hack while on a mission (plus its retro and the biggest things in TMNT is nostalgia).

Michelangelo is done really well in the show (if not sometimes overly silly bordering on stupidity) and I thought he was HILARIOUS in the new movie. I gave him a missing tooth because I figured he would be the most reckless and hurt himself trying out new ninja skateboard tricks in the lair. I made his armor orange knee and elbow pads because Mikey is the most colorful of the four and would think it was neat to have a matching set. I also imagine he would be a superhero geek and as an homage to the classic belt buckles I gave him a Manhattan Bagel pin which he would use as an insignia on his belt. For his general design I stayed pretty close to the Nick and IDW versions. I tried to keep him looking grubby with lots of scuffs and a couple bandages. I figure he is the goofball that plays in the dirt and gets hurt horsing around and as soon as Splinter is done patching him up is ready to go back out and go crazy. There was a lot of stuff going on in the movie costume for him and I just didn't think it was applicable for this kind of look.

As always, the TMNT characters and whatnot do not belong to me and are a property of Nickelodeon? Idk, they were made by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Big thank you to Mateus Santolouco as I used his designs as a reference point for mine.

Cowabunga dudes!
