Description

Mortals aren’t very special. They often know very little of immortals and other such beings that are mostly considered myths and urban legends in the later cycles. Very few even have magic.

There are several races of mortals within this world:

Humans
- Humans are normal people with no special physical traits. They have no markings, other than those that they acquire throughout their lives ( scars and tattoos ). Their hair can range from blondes, to browns, to dull reds, to blacks and can have any texture. Their eyes can be browns, greens, blues, and almost anything in between. They can have any natural skin tone and are considered to be the first truly mortal race besides animals. The are rather average, but generally gifted in all magic if they have it. Humans can cross-breed with all other races except for Shifters. They are the most populous race in the Homeland.

Average Female Height: 5’ 4”
Lifespan: 80 years

Elves
- Elves are tall, thin beings with sharp, pointed ears and oddly colored eyes. They have unnaturally colored skin. Most are very pale, while others have very dark skin. Those with lighter skin almost exclusively have white or very faintly colored hair. Those with darker skin exclusively have nearly pitch black hair and have skin covered in sharp, intricate, glowing markings. Their eyes are almost exclusively the same color as their hair ( unless they have white, blonde, or black hair ), though much more saturated in color. Dark skinned elves have eye colors that match up with their markings. They believe themselves to be higher beings due to their intelligence and gift for psychological magic. They are proficient in illusion and evocation magic and are the only race who can naturally use telepathy.

Lifespan: 1,000 years

Orcs
- Orcs are taller than both humans and elves. They often have much broader frames and grayer skin. They are more likely to have very dark skin tones and very dark eyes. They always have large tusks protruding from their lower set of teeth and seem fond of decorating them with jewelry. Their hair can range from dirty blondes, which are very rare, to natural pitch black tones and is often very frizzy and easily matted. They are traditionally more tribal and defensive of their cultures than the other races, often living in isolated and occasionally warring clans than in regular societies like the Great Empire. They have very little proficiency in magic, but they are the physically strongest of the mortal races. Some say that they used to be strong enough to kill Dragons.

Giants
- The giants are a peaceful race. They are tall and often very strong and bulky. They are always covered in odd, simplistic, blocky patterns that will faintly glow at night or beneath the earth. They can have any of the same hair and skin tones as humans, but are more likely to have straighter hair. They are gifted in world altering magic and are often known as the keepers of peace. They are the only race that are respected by Dragons and often can live peacefully alongside them.

Lifespan: 800 years

Therianths
- Therianth are shapeshifters and often seen as a more animalistic race. They are very closely linked to nature. This race has the natural ability to become one specific animal. They can transform into anything from deer to cats and will retail some of the features of their animalistic form when in their human-like form, usually only markings, eyes, ear shape, and horns. Therianths are too far from the other races to cross-breed, so they’re all pure blooded. However, they can also only breed with therianths of the same or similar races. They are unable to use all magic. They are often considered weak and primitive by the other races.

Average Female Height: 4’ to 6’ 11” ( Depending on animal )
