I got a call from my editors in the X-Men office at Marvel about a month ago to do some design work for some new Sentinels. for the last 30 or so years the Sentinels have had the same general design so Marvel wanted to spruce them up for the new Civil War story line going on this Summer. They didn't give me any other guidelines except to make them each look original and bad-ass. There are 5 all together named Warmachine, Crazytrain, Ogre, Shrapnel, and Megaton. Salvador Larroca designed Warmachine and Crazytrain so I was charged with doing the final 3. I tried to make them characteristic with their name and give them the ominous feel I think a Sentinel should have. Inspiration came from all over the place including Gundam, Transformers, Evangelion, Big O, Thundercats, and the 5th Element. I should also mention that these have all already been approved and are currently being drawn by Marvel artists for this Summer's comics. Awesome designs, can I ask you a question, I'm working on developing a youtube show about stuff in the entertainment industries that's overlooked by accident or on purpose and I'm thinking of using aΒ Sentinel from X MenΒ "but an original design version with different colors", and I was wondering if your interested in helping me out?

Since Mutants and their powers are constantly "Evloving", then it makes since for the Sentinels to evolve as well.
I still like the Idea of Sentinels adapting themselves to mimic Mutant Powers (this wa sused in "Wolverine and teh X-Men")
these designs are pretty cool....Awesome, even.
but, I still think their no match for Wolverine or The Hulk.

OUTSTANDING job on the 2nd one, though i think gattling guns would probably fit the pic better, still blasters always look good XD
the third one doesn't even need words... it's just that dern good!

On May 16th of this year it will be 2 years since I said I was going to make a 3D model of one of these concepts...
Time flies so fast... I canβt believer itβs been almost two yearsβ¦ I am a lead artist of a game studio now and that means very little free time, but I promise you that before 16th of May rolls in, I am going to finish one of them. I think the one on the left! I promise to clear my schedule and just do it. Or at least begin! Itβs my personal goal now!

So I just got the comic these were in. I was reading it and saw the sentinels and at first thought... wait I've seen these before... Then a few pages later I realized where from! You! I was all giddy for a moment seeing your stuff in a comic.

Whoa! wait your the one who came up with these desings?Wow...i think their much better than larrocas(more ooh and aah than his) and ya the influense is notable especialy the middle one(Shrapnel)looks like an american Big.oh and I should note from all the "re-desings of the Sentinels throughout the years, from MK# to Prime, MasterMolds and Nimrods these seem the most thought out.

regarding this sentinel design business...
i just picked up the 'new x-men' being pencilled by paco medina (great stuff by the way).
in it is 'Nimrod' a sentinel from the future.
if i remember correctly, he was also originally drawn in 'uncanny x-men' by John Romita Jr.
so. my thought: shouldn't your version of sentinels be some type of 'transition' between the 1960's style tincans, and the sleek futuristic Romita Jr. version?
(to keep the storyline visually consistent)
I love your art. (no question there) but from a designer's aspect, it looks like they're simply transformers (of which i can't wait to see next year's movie!).
