Description The boat rocked surprisingly gently, as they reached a calm point in the storm.

Despite how much warmer, and probably safer, it was below deck, a good few families and scattered travelers were set up on the deck, eyeing the skies and ocean with equal nervous energy. Yet, to counteract this, many people were making polite conversation. Quiet conversation. Murmurs, even.

Skorts would call them murmurs. Whispers. Perfect for eavesdropping on if they weren't all so... boring. He stuck out his tongue, collecting snowflakes and pulling them into his mouth to properly suck up. They tasted bad, but it was something to do.

So instead of eavesdropping, he indulged in his fifth favorite thing to do: daydream. A simple, but ongoing thing, of himself, his brother, and sometimes his dad going on some sort of adventure. Sometimes his mom was there, but... it was complicated to add more people now, so he peacefully wondered how he would fight off a Krenchi-eating, giant slug.

Well. It clearly only ate Krenchi, an odd specification, but clearly why Huo would want it gone, soft hearted as he was. So, clearly they'd get spears. They'd also mix up a bunch of sap and salt, and stick that on said spears. Then he'd be the bait by... wait, no. He couldn't be the bait, because he was a giglin, not a krenchi. So... they'd convince a stranger to be the bait for them.

He peaked open an eye, and briefly scanned the passengers on the boat. There were a few Krenchi around. Mostly of the mountain variety. One stood out to him, briefly, with dull grey and brown fur and a plain white horn. His smile was... very nice, but he had several scars that breached through his thick fur.

So the stranger would be somebody like that. Battle hardened already, but clearly happy to help. Nice.

And Skorts would be very close by, while his brother would be up in a tree or really tall rock, waiting for the perfect moment to...

"... You've been awfully quiet Skorts." And there was his brother, knocking him out of his daydream instead of killing any slugs or snails or whatever. Huo'Tah looked down at him with a raised eyebrow, clutching the railing like a lifeline.

Ah wait this is where he had to speak out loud. "Yeah?" He sucked up his slightly too cold tongue, shuddering as he felt the cold transfer into his throat. "Can't a guy think?" He smiled. "I don't have to talk all the time, Two-Eyes."

"But you sure love talking." Huo'Tah glanced down, bringing Skorts's attention back to the entire reason they were currently on a boat in the first place.

Their cousins (once removed), were coming to the mainland this year. And probably staying for at least two. Trivia was huddled between the two of them, her blanket the only thing she could manually carry with her here. Guess, on the other hand, was making passive conversation with a Nameless child of the same age as him.

Two kids, who they were currently in charge of because... well, reasons. Skorts crouched down, patting Trivia on the head, pushing her pink hair back over her eyes. "Watcha' looking at, kid?" He teased. She only jumped a bit, before letting out an awkward, quiet laugh. "Skorts, I can't see..."

"Oh, what's the matter, did you go blind??" He moved his other hand to cover where her eyes would be. A soft laugh sneaked out of the child. "Hey Guess, your sister's gone blinded!" He craned to look at the two other kids, Guess looking at him with nothing short of the very essence of unimpressed. "Uncle Skorts, don't do that."

"Don't do what? He's not doing anything." In a rare change of pace Huo'Tah joined in, making Trivia laugh harder. "Why are you laughing, you can't see?? This is," Now he couldn't hold back a snicker, "very serious!"

"Sorry, hold on a moment. My uncles' are really wierd." Guess stood up, padding over with purpose. "Uncle Skorts, stop that." "Really, stop what? I'm not doing anything!"

Trivia just kept quietly giggling. The actually happy kind of giggling, that wasn't like their call. Skorts briefly wondered why she didn't just shove his hands away, as this joke would end as soon as she did or said something. But instead, it was Guess who had to shove his hands away. Seems he was the only one who didn't find it very funny.

"Ah, look at that. She can see again." Huo'Tah clapped, before his one of his paws quickly went back to gripping the railing. "Scaredy Scattie." He puffed at his brother, who gave him a half-hearted glare. "But yeah, look at that Guess, you've done it! You've cured whatever ailment she suddenly got as quickly as it was gotten!" Skorts patted the other kid on the back.

"... You covered her eyes." "What, nooo." "Uncle, we need to be quiet. Stop being wierd." With that the child returned to his former spot, starting up the conversation once again.

"... Eh, tough crowd." He ruffled Trivia's head one more time before standing back up.

"Uh, Skorts, can I ask you something?" Trivia stood up as well, her blanket clutched firmly around her shoulders. "Sure! What?" "... Why was your tongue black, earlier?"

Ah.

Huh.

Well he sure hadn't noticed that before, actually. He 'licked' the air, briefly checking it out. No longer translucent, no longer white... yep, something happened to his tongue. Not something he was privy to, on top of that.

So he lied. "Oh, yeah. I ate charcoal."

"... Why??"

"I thought it would be tasty if I mixed it in with some nectar! It wasn't, though. Tasted really bad, actually." He nodded.

"Oh. That was silly, everybody knows you don't do that!" Trivia shook her head. "Aw, but I didn't know!"

With this, Huo'Tah leaned in, tapping him on the shoulder. "Skorts, can we tone this down a bit now? Others are starting to stare. I think we're getting too loud." Drat. "Aw, and I thought you wanted me to talk." He whispered back, choosing to very obviously stretch before sitting down.

Everyone went quiet once more, save for the gentle murmurs of the ship's passengers, and the ever growing wind.

Hmm... maybe they should see if they could squeeze in underneath the deck soon...

Yet for now, he brushed his three tails over to Guess, and allowed Trivia to huddle next to his side. All the while Huo'Tah looked out into the ocean, waiting for any sort of change.

If the weather didn't get worse, Skorts actually wanted to start another conversation with his brother
