Standalone art piece in the storyline~

(there is a summary underneath; for all your quick read needs)

The transition of a foal from its birth mother to a foster mare is a stressful period of time for all parties involved. Is the foster mare going to accept the unknown foal? Is the foal going to accept the dam? Is there a backup plan in place should there need to be one? Will the foal still develop okay? Will there be lingering issues?
The worry only increased when the usual outgoing young foal had receded in personality, coming off the trailer very shy and reserved. Jax  had been so lively from the moment he was on the ground, eager to get on his fresh wobbly legs. He tumbled and flipped again and again until he could steady the stilts underneath him. Like an athlete downing a gulp of electrolytes, he hydrated and then the games began; frolicking and bucking wild!
However, due to unforeseen circumstances, Jax would need a foster mare. Not something that was easily decided for fear it would stunt his growth physically and possibly psychologically by removing him from his birth mother. The search began quickly, while trying to be thorough that he'd land softly in good hands. Serenity Lake Stables had just the candidate mare that already had experience raising foals and ones with larger than life personalities to boot. Plans were quickly put in order to get Jax transported as soon as possible in hopes a good bond would be formed early in life.
The young colt had been eager to get on the trailer at first, curiosity getting the best of him. He hopped right on with his chest poked out and his head held high, trying to peak through the high windows. However, as the doors closed and his mother was nowhere near, Jax's demeanor shriveled and everyone's worries were coming to fruition. They just dearly hoped when Jax got settled and the new mare took him in, he'd find his spark again.
Everyone watched with concern and hope with Jax and Fly just separated by a low stall wall that the connection would happen. Fly was first to approach with her ears perked up, nickering to the young foal, recognizing a foal that was not being watched over. She craned her neck out in his direction, hoping to catch a scent that she would recognize. It wasn't natural that a foal to be left on its own without good reason, after all.
At first, Jax kept his shoulder to the far side of the stall, unwillingly to move. He did watch the mare across the stall, bobbing his head to get a look at her, quivering his nostrils to check who she was too. They began to exchange nickers as if she was coaxing him to come closer. Jax lowered his head, chewing his gums together; his way of expressing that he was just a baby and he meant no harm. The way Fly pressed against the stall, bobbing her head with a swish of her tail explained that it was clear to her he was no threat: Now get over here, young man, so that I may figure out who you are.
Jax cautiously padded over to her, leaning his tiny muzzle towards her, again, reiterated that he was just a tiny little baby and didn't know where he was or what he was doing, that he was no trouble, please don't hurt me. Everyone watched on as Fly gave him a thorough investigation, poking and prodding at him. This was no one's foal from around this stable. There was no obvious reason he had been left behind; no illness, no injury and yet there he stood oblivious to survival. She turned her body, staying close to the divider, encouraging him to do the same as she had done. There was a collective sigh of relief and finally smiles formed as the young colt wobbled closer and began poking his nose at her through the slats in the divider.
His personality began to return in spurts. For the first week, he stayed glued to Fly's side, no doubt in reaction to being pulled away from his dam's side so suddenly. Where she went, he went. He was her fly on her side. He really started to blossom when they could be turned out in the paddock together. It began as pestering Fly, at first. Poking her belly, nudging her shoulder, nibbling on her forelock and ears when she lowered her head to graze. And then came the short bursts of frolic! All would be calm. A tiny tail would shimmy. Then he'd wheel away and bolt from her side, jumping and bucking! He would wheel back and sprint back towards her like a pack of lions was chasing him! Sometimes he'd be able to nimbly avoid her, other times attempting to jump over her back and crashing into the side of her instead. And then all would be calm again.
Safe to say, the young colt got his charisma back. So when he was turned loose for the foal inspections, he cranked up the antics! He'd bolt past Fly, leaving her in his dust with his tail high to the sky! (No doubt she could easily catch up to the booger but that was too much unnecessary effort) He'd spin around and buck and zip past her again, jumping high into the air, practicing his take off! He'd bounce around into a trot, huffing and puffing, giving her a whinny to see if she'd come chasing after him! It was play time!
When she was done with keeping up with the lad, knowing he couldn't get far from her, she'd settle and stand while the boisterous colt had the run of the place. Much like he had learned from the pasture, he saw her lowered head as an opportunity! Smacking his foamy lips together, he lined up for her and galloped towards her! He lifted off, throwing his little body to the sky to make a mean jump over her neck if he couldn't clear her back! Thankfully, Fly knew to just dip her head down to avoid the crash landing. Silly colt.
But he sure was proud of himself, thinking he had just cleared the biggest jump in jump history. From an early age, jumping was in the colt's blood where it remained to present day. And even after wearing himself out, his nostrils flared and little lungs puffing away, he always wandered back to Fly's side to nudge his little muzzle to her shoulder just like he had the first day he met his new mommy to say he was there and that's where he wanted to be.

A BABY JAX!!! The first time he's ever been drawn NOT grey!! -weeping-

Not me tearing up over a silly baby horse story >:""")
Something as simple as not wanting to draw a non-HARPG pixel pony, reaching out to the community for a foster mare to look after my derpy Jax baby, and discovering a whole new chapter for the dude just got me in the feels not knowing I was gonna get got. <''3 Thank you so much EquineRibbon for offering up and letting me feature Fly! (and everyone else that reached out with your awesome mares! Choosing was NOT easy!!) I hope I did her justice in the art and in the story! Maybe one day they can reunite again and we'll see if she'll recognize the big greyed out derp x'''3

Another style I just let kind of do its own thing for this piece! Whatever made the brain comfortable without really giving myself a box to stay in! I wasn't liking it when I was sticking to the first idea but once I got into free flow, this was so satisfying!
