Why thank you dalhin! This was the second time trying to make that image because the first one I had been making died when my computer crashed.

Sparkly and shiny! I love the sun rays and the really bright, strong light on the pony. The color of the water is gorgeous ^-^ You always do so well with water spray effects - looks super-realistic once again!

YAY! I get better with water!
Thanks so much for comment Nueme! I was trying SO many new things in this pic and typically I ain't that adventurous so I was a tad nervous with how people would view this. I think the lights are a wee bit too strong (as in, you can tell what they were intended for but I don't think I pulled it off so much as conveyed the concept to y'all )

Indeed, indeed! *splashes in it*
You're most welcome! ^-^
Trying new things is always good! The light IS very strong, but I like it that way -it's bright and shiny and that's the best part <3

CristaliaART In reply to dream-seer [2010-06-29 06:42:51 +0000 UTC]

Yep. Do you read it or do you watch it? It is my most favourite book. I haven't found yet anything better than it. It is not simply a story... It has so many things to learn from. I guess the writer is really a wise man. ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dream-seer In reply to CristaliaART [2010-06-29 17:38:54 +0000 UTC]

I can't bear to watch the show because the books are WAIII better ^-^ I think I've read the first one like 4 or 5 times I was SO sad when the series ended I found the ending to be a bit bland and cliche ("and they all lived happily ever after" my foot) <-- granted, they had already been through A LOT, but that doesn't mean they get a happily ever after. I wanted to see Richard and Kahlan's kids >.<

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CristaliaART In reply to dream-seer [2010-06-29 19:19:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the ending could have been better... I don't like the idea that they've separated the worlds... It is a nice idea, but I was expecting far more. Just looks like Goodkind was tired of writing. Yes, I'd love to see their children as well. ^^ Though, it is good that no one dies in the end (out of main characters) as usually happens in all good stories. At least this is a good thing. I was worrying it could end this way.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dream-seer In reply to CristaliaART [2010-07-02 19:44:00 +0000 UTC]

Yea, I thought the world seperation was a cop-out as well. Goodkind makes all these parallels between communism and democracy and then says the only way we can live peacefully is if we stay apart >.<
Pshhhhh, he could have done better.
And yes, I'mma glad no one vitally intriguing ended up dead (ie: Zedd. I would have cried is Zedd ended up dead )

Tail minus tailbone equals lufferly [and now, pain-free] pose ^.^
:gasp:You has changed the horse! I think everyone's done that now except me. Muahaha. Me shall shut up and ask you if you would care to share tips on changing horse's poses.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dream-seer In reply to Savellla [2010-06-28 07:34:20 +0000 UTC]

lol on the lack of tail bone xD
As for changing the pony's pose, all I did was tuck in it's head a bit, tilted the body so that it looked like the pony was rearing, then erased parts of the back legs to make it look like they disappeared in the water.

A tip for changing pony poses:
USE WHAT'S ALREADY THERE!
Helps to keep things natural looking lighting wise and such. Don't be afraid of using the clone tool/smudge tool/copy the limb in question and blend the new/extra limb to your body with an eraser. Make sure all the muscle lines line up properly on your new leg, and don't erase the old limb until your new one is pretty much in place (it makes a great reference and a great place to plop your clone tool).
Another suggestion: when you're doing all of this, make sure you're doing it ON THE ORIGINAL STOCK PICTURE, don't do it on your manip! <-- It's just a personal preference of mine, but I find it is typically a lot easier to make everything look good and natural in the stock pictures then it is to correct all the poses in your (probably heavily edited) manip.

So yeah, I think those are pretty solid guidelines to follow. Don't be afraid to play with them though. Sometimes I can get effects or looks that I hadn't previously anticipated by breaking those wee bits of rules ^-^

How did you do that?!?!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dream-seer In reply to Geloof-HF [2010-06-28 00:49:37 +0000 UTC]

lol, that's a long story, but the Cole's notes version is;
- Turned water blue with photofilter
- Darkened the forest in the BG, made the originally highlighted branches emphasized with the dodge tool/harden tool
- Used the gradient tool to cover the top half of the image with a beigy-pink color (washed out the colors of the forest behind, an effect that happens whenever you look at the sun through trees)
- Made all those sunbeam tools using a white paint brush and setting everything to "overlay"
- Highlighted the rocks in the BG where my artificial sunrays would touch
- Cut out the pony, used the burn tool to make it a bay horsey, played around with the contrast/brightness, then attacked with my dodge tool to make all the appropriate highlights.
- Redrew the mane and tail using my handy mouse
- Used the photoshop brushes to make the spray of water, and used one of the default erasers to blend the pony's back legs into the water.
- Put pony name and credits on ^-^

If you have any specific questions on any of these steps, don't be afraid to ask I like to share
