Faye rubbed her hands together furiously as they waited in line. The sun had only started peeking over the trees a few hours prior and the morning chill had yet to leave. They were waiting in line for the second trial of the Loshenka Anniversary Event and all the waiting was leaving the cold to seep into Faye’s bones.

Helios was obviously feeling the cold as well as he jigged in place, after the first few tugs on his bridle he had settled for shuffling in place. The stallion could tell this trial was a big deal, his tail was flagged, his neck was arched and his nostrils flared with each snort from his lungs.

Faye gave a quick jiggle to his lead as he started forward again, “Easy bud, we’re next.”

The pair ahead of them finished up their evaluation as Helios and Faye were called in for their trot up. Faye clucked at the stallion as they walked through the gate. Although he was fired up, Helios sometimes had a tendency to go up instead of forward.

“Come on,” She growled as they took off jogging. It took him a few steps but in no time Helios was exhibiting his classic Loshenka extended trot. His long legs flicking out in front of him and his strong hind end adding power. His stride got progressively longer until Faye had to give him a little tug on the lead. Already she had to stretch her own legs out to keep up with the stallion’s long gait and if it got any longer she’d fall on her face in no time. This is not the time. Do not trip, she thought. This was her first international competition of any sort, and not only that but this was an event for only the most prestigious of stables. This was not the time to trip.

The judge cleared their throat, “You may halt for examination.”
