STORY:
Mason had been hunting for another show to compete at for a while, but nothing was popping up on his radar. He searched for hours, scrolling on his laptop but to no avail. He let out a defeated sigh and ran his hands through his hair, pressing his temples for some kind of stress relief as he did.

"Hey," Mason sat upright, startled by the sudden voice in the room and turned to see Aiden standing in the doorway, face in his phone. "You know that place Mustard is registered at?" Aiden looked up at him. "They've got some big New Year's show going on, looks like they have some classes you might be interested in." Aiden nonchalantly went back to his phone, turned and walked out of the office. "You should have a look!" He called out as he walked to another room.

Mason sat there, dumbfounded for a moment at the fact his partner found something while casually scrolling through social media and he couldn't find anything after hours of searching. After coming to terms with that, he then was shocked that a registry for thoroughbreds would host western events, given the breed is primarily used for other sports.

Finally, it was the day of the event. Mason had been hanging out for this since he registered.

It was always exciting to get an excuse to travel to the States, it still felt homely, even if he was on the other side of the country from his old residence. The cold winter weather was something he missed too. He looked out over the rolling green fields near the indoor arena, taking a breath of crisp, cold air. There was soft fog settled neatly in the distance over the fields and a dusting of fluffy clouds in the sky. The dew on the grass flicked off onto his boots as he lead Mustard into the arena.

The warmth from the indoor heaters and overhead lights immediately hit him, sending a brief chill up his back. Mustard, clearly happy to be out of the cold, shook his head clumsily, snorting unbecomingly and messing up his neatly brushed mane.

Mason looked him over, the stallion had shaped up a lot since he was brought to HPR. His coat was shiny and clipped, his tail was growing back out and his muscles were well-formed. A proud smile crept onto his face as Mustard looked around grumpily at the other competitors.

"Right you, that's enough of that attitude," Mason said playfully as he put his foot in the stirrup, lifting himself onto his back. He took the reins, resting them behind the pommel while waiting for everyone to arrive. They were up first so the pressure was on.
